Today is May 31, 2021, and this is Memorial Day. In Episode 17, What is Memorial Day, I presented the US Code for this federal holiday. I decided to include it today as well:



Title 36 US Code Subtitle 1 Article A Chapter 1 Section 116



‘‘(4) MEMORIAL DAY.—The term ‘Memorial Day’means the legal public holiday designated as Memorial Day by section 6103(a) of title 5, United StatesCode.‘‘(5) T‘‘SEC. 4. NATIONAL MOMENT OF REMEMBRANCE.‘‘The minute beginning at 3:00 p.m. (local time) onMemorial Day each year is designated as the ‘NationalMoment of Remembrance’.‘‘SEC. 6. DUTIES.‘‘(a) IN GENERAL. —The Commission shall—‘‘(1) encourage the people of the United States togive something back to their country, which providesthem so much freedom and opportunity;‘‘(2) encourage national, State, local, and tribalparticipation by individuals and entities in commemoration of Memorial Day and the National Moment of Remembrance, including participation by—‘‘(A) national humanitarian and patriotic organizations;‘‘(B) elementary, secondary, and higher educationinstitutions;‘‘(C) veterans’ societies and civic, patriotic, educational, sporting, artistic, cultural, and historicalorganizations;‘‘(D) Federal departments and agencies; and‘‘(E) museums, including cultural and historicalmuseums; and‘‘(3) provide national coordination for commemorations in the United States of Memorial Day and theNational Moment of Remembrance.C:\LRC\WORK\PDFMAKE\2011\USC36.11 (govinfo.gov)
