The senate failed in two votes today to reopen the government after it shutdown last night, stopping paychecks for hundreds of thousands of federal workers. Governor Josh Green hopes federal workers affected by the government shutdown will look for opportunities with the state through the Operation Hire Hawaii Initiative. And Jane Goodall, the conservationist renowned for her groundbreaking chimpanzee field research, has died at age 91.
