You’ve probably heard someone say, “But you don’t look blind.”
We have too.
This Is What Blind Looks Like exists because…
Join Angie, Patty, Danny, and Greg, four people with very different backgrounds and experiences with blindness, as we trade stories, challenge misconceptions, answer the questions people are sometimes afraid to ask, and occasionally call out the ridiculous things blind people encounter in a world designed with sight in mind.
We talk accessibility, blindness etiquette, guide dogs and canes, technology, relationships, careers, independence, ableism, and everyday life. We bring in guests, share resources, answer listener questions through "Ask a Blind Person", and sometimes set the serious stuff aside and have a little BS session.
And while blindness connects us, it doesn’t define everything about us. We’re people with careers, families, relationships, opinions, hobbies, weird stories, pet peeves, and lives that extend far beyond our disabilities.
If you’re blind or visually impaired, adjusting to vision loss, know or love someone who is blind, want to be a better ally, or have ever wondered what life without sight is actually like, pull up a chair.
You might discover that “what blind looks like” is a whole lot broader than you thought.
Because blindness doesn’t have one look.
This is what blind looks like.
