What does real friendship actually look like in a social-media generation?

In Week 2 of our Friends series, we talk about the difference between fake friends and real friends, and why so many friendships today feel temporary, shallow, or transactional.

We unpack the idea of contract friendships: relationships based on benefits, convenience, or proximity, and contrast them with covenant friendships, the kind of relationships God models throughout Scripture. Friendships that don’t disappear when things get hard. Friends who confront in love. Friends who walk with purpose, not just proximity.

Using biblical examples like David and Jonathan, and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, this message challenges us to rethink how we choose our closest friends, and how we show up as one.

If you’ve ever been burned by fake friends, avoided hard conversations, or wondered why some friendships never go deeper, this message is for you.

Because friendship isn’t a subscription… it’s a covenant.

Where does Jesus meet people?
Not in perfect places. Not when they have it all together. Not after they clean up their mess.

As we kick off our Friends series, we look at how Jesus first called His disciples: fishermen at work, a tax collector in his sin, doubters full of questions, and what they became after encountering Him. From ordinary lives to world changers, their stories remind us that Jesus meets us right where we are… but He never leaves us there.

We also talk about Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42 and how Jesus cares more about relationship than performance. Whether you feel distracted, unqualified, stressed, or stuck, this message is a reminder that Jesus is not waiting at the finish line, He’s stepping into your real life right now.

No matter your past, your doubts, or your current struggles, Jesus is still calling: “Follow Me.”
