Around this time of year, people start sharing posts on social media that say things like “My culture is not a costume.” People who share these articles are talking about cultural appropriation. In this episode, I talk a little bit about cultural appropriation and how it relates to Halloween costumes. I am not an expert on this topic, so I encourage you to look it up and learn more on your own as well!

Nostalgia is a sense of longing or wanting for the past. Halloweentown was one of my favorite movies from the Disney Channel. It came out in 1998, and every time I watch it now I feel so nostalgic. In this episode, I talk about the movie Halloweentown and why it makes me feel so nostalgic. Faggot is a slur used to talk about gay men. In this episode, I talk about the word faggot. I talk about its relationship to masculinity. I also talk about how I use this word now as a way to reclaim the word.

In this episode, I talk about Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October, 12). I talk about another holiday, Columbus Day, that happens on the same day and why some people still celebrate Columbus Day. I also share some words from various indigenous languages in the Americas.
