  • How To Analyze Your Existing Network

Good news listeners, you already have some kind of network, it may be small, big, weak, strong but the good thing is that you’ve already got something - you’re not starting from zero!

    Phew!

But have you ever sat down and asked yourself who your closest connections are and why are they your closest? How invested in your success are they, how invested in their success are you? Who among the people you know are just acquaintances? It’s important to make sure you surround yourself with really solid people.

One lesson most people learn late in life when it comes to making connections is, the connections you make should not be toxic. They should be healthy ones. Do not. I repeat, do not surround yourself with toxic, garbage people. You and your future have no room for that shit.

If you are doing this analysis for the first time, some unexpected things might come up, you might have realizations and “aha” moments, this is good, we need to have these realizations; so that we can work on things going forward.

You are the nucleus in your network, and you might realize that some of electrons spinning around you, that you thought were close to you are actually not so close or maybe even toxic. You might realize that you have less electrons than you should (look at me using that biology degree after all!). The aim of this analysis is to understand your network and your relationships as they exist now so that we can work on things going forward.

In this lesson I teach you how to break down your network into circles, of 5, 15, 50, and 100+ and discuss the strength and value of each of those circles. So tune in to understand exactly where your network stands today.

If you have not listened to the first podcast; where I explain how networking impacted me and why I want to give you all the networking tools you need; I highly recommend you go back and give it a listen.

    Key Takeaways

  • The List Yourself Approach: How to Connect With Anyone

After listening to this episode you will never ever be able to say that you don't have anything to talk about at networking events. And that’s the truth!

In this Social media, share everything age, with people flaunting their mostly fake lives on Social media, it might make you feel insecure, thinking that everyone else is interesting and you are so boring. Stop right there and listen to me when I tell you this! You are far more interesting than you think you are. Everyone has something interesting and amazing about them - yes, even you.

To teach you (and me) how interesting we all are and how much we actually have to share and connect with people over, I created the List yourself approach. The list helps us understand all the ways we can begin to build commonality and connection with the people we meet.

First, we are going to make a list of things that make up who you are, and that are interesting to you. I will teach you how you can use this list to learn more about other people and make genuine connections. Interesting people are interested in other people.  So let’s find out exactly how interesting and amazing you already are, and then use the list to find out how amazing and interesting other people are! People love to share their experiences and the only way they will tell you is when you show genuine interest and ask them. Yeah! All you need to do is ask them. It’s just that simple.

In Episode 2 we listed out the networking Circles, and identified the people you want to improve your relationships with. This episode will take you in that direction to start digging deeper into those relationships.

If you haven’t Listened to those previous episodes then I highly recommend you do so, this podcast is released in series, so joining from the start will be more beneficial to you.

  • E1: Welcome to This (Networking) Shit Works

Welcome to the This Shit Works Podcast! I am your host Julie Brown. I am Professional Speaker, Business Development Strategist, Networking coach and Author of This Shit works a No nonsense Guide to Networking Your Way To More Friends More Adventures and more success. I teach people how to create authentic business relationships through the power of authentic Networking.

People hate networking, mostly because they are doing it all wrong. And I can’t blame them, it’s no something we learned in school. I spent years laboring over the Pythagorean theorem and quadratic equations which I have used a total of Zero times since I graduated. But networking, a skill that has the power to change each and every persons career was never taught. So no wonder most people don’t know how to network, or have the tools to do it correctly, or think that they were not born with the gift of networking.

Creating Relationships and networking is one of the most fundamental methods to advance your career even a cause that you are passionate about, because, at it’s core networking is human communication 101 and that is what builds authentic relationships.

So how many hours do you need to dedicate to networking each week. Studies suggest about 6. Thats it, 6 hours!! 6 hours out of the 168 hours you have every week it takes to build a good network that can help you land your dream job , launch anew business, or increase the influence and success you have in your existing career. So you have no excuse to not do it.

We need relationships because everything and everyone is dependent on each other and all of the connections, assistance, referrals and other good shit you need will be unlocked when you network.

33% of people are expected to lose their job during Covid-19 Created. Without networking and a network of people around you it can be really difficult to bounce back and find a job. 74% of jobs are filled via networking and word of mouth and if you don’t have a strong network you your access to these positions will be extremely limited.

This is why I started this podcast, to help people realize that the people you meet can one hundred percent change your life. Networking is how you meet those people. Each week we will dig into my life lessons and that of others, so that you can create the future that you want.

All you have to do is spend 5-25 minutes every week and absorb the tools that I teach you and practice using them every week and I promise, once you get the hang of it it will come naturally to you.

This Episode is an introduction to the journey we will be taking together, making networking fun, accessible and career changing. Lets go.
