WARNING: This episode briefly mentions suicide
On this Episode 27 I steam straight ahead on Quick News and look at the secret to longevity and find out about a long-term study that suggests it’s our relationships that could dictate how long we live and not necessarily what we eat, how much exercise we do or the supplements we take.
On the Real Deal I cover the extraordinary story of the Empty Chairs campaign (emptychairs.org.uk) set up by Dean Perryman to combat loneliness and create low-pressure human connections after losing his best friend Rob to suicide. This organisation has now grown beyond the UK and is established around the world.
And finally, on Far Out Stuff, does your social life need some support? Do you need a Grandma to help you perfect a recipe or do you need some relationship advice that only a Grandma could give you? What – you haven’t got one?! Well, why not just Rent A Grandma?!

Fish Oils! – millions of us take them daily to ward off dementia and sharpen our brain…but, a recent study suggests we maybe on a hiding to nothing.
And the secret to happiness is apparently a bucket list, but not just any old bucket list, oh no. A reverse bucket list!
And finally, home remedies for what ails ya. Do they really work? Do you really need to tie a dead mole around your neck if you have a cough? Only one way to find out!
This is the link for the Fish Oil segment if you want to know more: The new study was a 24-month, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial published in eBioMedicine in June 2026. It randomised 365 adults aged 55–80 to 2 g/day DHA or placebo; 47% carried APOE4. DHA levels in cerebrospinal fluid increased, demonstrating that the supplement reached the central nervous system, but there was no significant difference in cognition or brain volumes after two years. A major limitation is that 38% of participants dropped out, largely because of COVID-19, so the findings shouldn't be interpreted as proof that omega-3 has no health benefits whatsoever. (PubMed)
