In 2013, when my politics were a little different, I started a dystopian end-of-times steampunk series that I could never quite get right. Though the first volume was published in 2019, I just felt like I was missing something, and that my new paradigms (post divorce and my exit from a religious cult) were just not aligning with my original vision. As I watched much of what I had written about come to pass in the real world, it occurred to me that it was time, not just to finish the work I had begun over a decade ago, but that I needed to start from the beginning and, with a new and brighter and more hopeful ending in mind, see if I couldn’t, at least in my own mind, show how a civilization can do more than destroy itself, but rebuild something better and more equitable for all.
Join me as this new story unfolds. The journey will include posted chapters, audio narrations, and podcasted and written essays about how I came to be here, how I think we as a people have come to be here, and where I believe (and very much hope) we are headed.
Content will be available for both paid and free subscribers. The first five chapters of both the narrated and text versions of the chapters will be available to all. After that, only paid subscribers will have access to the audio narration and will be first to hear podcasted content. Opportunities for discussion will come soon, but comments will be turned off as I set this up and learn how to navigate Substack.
I’m Emma von Lindenau, and I look forward to meeting you soon!
