Thomas M. Zegers was born on September 2, 1950 to Louis and Lillian (Novak) Zegers in David City, Nebraska. He attended grade school at District 58, a one room schoolhouse as the only student in his class and later graduated from Aquinas High School in 1968. Following high school, Tom was drafted into the United States Army, actively serving in Vietnam from November 1970 – December 1971. On November 4, 1972, he was united in marriage to Kathleen (Kathy) Pieters in Columbus, Nebraska. One child was born to this union, a son Brian. Kathy passed away on July 24,1976. On January 28, 1978 Tom was united in marriage to Judy (Thonen) in Seward, Nebraska. Two children were born to this union, daughters Bridget and Andrea. Tom was a lifetime member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was also a member of the David City Legion and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Tom was a lifetime farmer, cattle producer and Farmall enthusiast, who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. In recent years, he especially cherished his time spent with family and friends.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Judy, children Brian (Tonya) Zegers, Bridget (Brian) Stuhr, Andrea Zegers (Shaun Earl), grandchildren: Ethan Zegers, Chloe Zegers, Isabelle Stuhr, Mary Stuhr, and Liam Stuhr, brother and sisters: Margaret Topil, Alice Policky, Delores Cast, Louise (Roger) Warnsholz, Bill (Bev) Zegers, brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed & Renae Pieters, Terry & Mary Hollmann, Vicki Jones, Dave & Beth Pieters, Theresa & John Lindinger, David Bonk, Rodney & Priscilla Thonen, Kathy Thonen, and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was proceeded in death by his parents, Louis & Lillian (Novak) Zegers; Judy’s parents, David & Selma (Ocken) Thonen & Kathy’s parents, Ed & Joanne (Mahoney) Pieters; brother, Joe & Virginia Zegers, brothers & sisters-in-law, Leroy Topil, Vernon Policky, Kenny Cast, Wayne Thonen, Bill & Carolyn Jorgensen, Linda & Gus Bernt, Shirley Bonk and Dan Pieters.
