Kevin Torgerson was elected Olmsted County Sheriff in November 2014 and took office on January 6, 2015. He sought the Office of Sheriff with a commitment to:
Cultivate community and regional partnerships
Improve technology to enhance services
Collaborate for improved public safety
Exercise fiscal responsibility
Promote staff development
As the Sheriff, Torgerson leads 177 employees and volunteers, oversees an annual budget of nearly $30 million, and serves a diverse population of over 150,000 people.
Prior to being elected, Torgerson continuously served with the Sheriff’s Office for more than 27 years, holding a number of leadership positions in the Sheriff’s Office, including Captain and Director of Emergency Management. This year (2020) marked his 34th year of service to Olmsted County. Kevin completed his formal education at Golden Valley Lutheran College, continued it at Metro State University, and is a certified Emergency Manager.
Born in Fergus Falls, he later graduated from Kenyon High School in Kenyon. Kevin and Lori have been married for more than 39 years. They have two adult children, Nick and Marissa. Nick is a doctor and Marissa is a Spanish Immersion teacher.
