  • Answering A Common Question

“Know that nothing can hinder you but yourself. If you believe you can, you can. You cannot fail if you start with the proposition that Life is all there is.”
    -Ernest Holmes

How do we make it work?

    We don’t.

That’s the good and bad news of it all. I think I have been challenged by faith lately. It seems to be at the forefront of my mind, and it is being reflected around me. I was having a conversation recently with someone who is looking to make change in life and the question that kept coming up was, “What do I do?”

It’s not an easy question to answer from the point of view of faith.

What has come through for me to say, though, is this: Do something, anything. You will know very quickly if you are on the right path, the path in service to your higher good. If you find the path is not in service that higher good… choose a new path.

We are programmed. Our programming begins early in our development of the experience of life in this plane of action. That is why the question of “what do I do?” is the easy question to fall back on. I believe we need to stop asking the question to begin with, and live in the certainty of the statement, “I am always led in the most constructive direction for the joyful fulfillment of my life.” To move to this place of assuredness and affirmation we need to reprogram our automatic response from one of questioning to one of knowing. This is the point of Spiritual practice.

We question because we think we don’t know. We believe that there is some answer beyond our reach and our knowing. I have come to rely more and more on affirming that I am the perfect center of my experience of the infinite, and that there is always that within me that knows, and knows that it knows. This must be true because I am not separate from the infinite (if I were… it would be finite). I affirm, my mind is the infinite mind, and all answers to that which I seek are available because the same mind that created the question is the mind that has the answer.

A great question to ask when I think I don’t know… “If you DID know, what would the answer be?”

It’s a little bit of a trick to get the mind off of thinking it doesn’t know and open up to what is possible.

I relieve myself today of the burden of not knowing. That is within my reach and power because I know who I am. I am the incarnation, the expression, the impress, and the circumference of the Infinite. I am always led in the perfect direction.

    What a magnificent answer.

  • Love Language

“When you squeeze an orange, orange juice comes out–because that’s what’s inside. When you are squeezed, what comes out is what’s inside.”
    -Wayne Dyer

Language is challenging. In the Science of Mind we often refer to “The Word” of God and reference the power of “The Word” as the impetus for all creation. But what is “The Word.”

While the word is in part the language we use to express our intentions, desires, and requirements — it is more than that. Language is simply the crude representation for what is happening within our minds and hearts, at the deeper level of Soul and Spirit. I say it is crude, because, try as we might, there are aspects of this deeper level which are ineffable.

When we talk about the word in New Thought philosophies, I think we are really intending to explain the energy behind all of creation. So let’s not get confused thinking that merely stating something is going to bring it into expression. It doesn’t. The most simple way of explaining this is to use the quantifiable… in this instance let’s use relationships.

I have friends, and I appreciate the quality of those friendships. I could have a lot of friends, or I could have just a few friends. My friendships can leave me feeling loved and fulfilled or sad and lonely. It is not the friendships themselves but the energy behind the friendships that leads to those feelings.

I am in charge of it all. I am in charge of those relationships in my life. I am in charge of the feeling and intention which I carry into those friendships. I get to decide.

That decision is backed with energy… and when I state the word in language, it is the energy of the word behind the speaking that activates the creative process.

I think this is very present for me today because I see so much in the world where intention and energy is not matched in the language. That may be a recipe for disaster. So I ask myself, “where is my energy and intention not matched with what I am saying?” After all, if I am seeing it in the world around me it is within me. My experience of the world is simply the manifestation of what is in my mind. It’s high time I did something about it.

So here’s the practice… align in truth and trust, be transparent.

This is a tall order for so many, and can be for me depending on the weight I assign to aspects of my being. Transparency is scary because it requires vulnerability. Transparency doesn’t equate to the elimination of kindness, though. We must be discerning in our transparency. Sometimes transparency is only for us, personally. We need to be transparent with ourselves.

In all things let us lead with kind intentions, kind words, and kind thoughts.

  • The Smell of Love
I am trying something new. I have been wanting to return to podcasting after some time away. So I am offering my musings in both podcast and written form. You can listen. You can read. You can listen and read! Enjoy!

“There are days which occur in this climate at almost every season of the year, wherein the world reaches perfection, when the air, the heavenly bodies and the earth, make a harmony, as if nature would indulge her offspring.”
    -Ralph Waldo Emerson

I was outside this morning when I was hit with such a nostalgic smell. There is a particular smell in the Sonoran desert that is caused by the creosote releasing its heavenly aroma when the rain falls. We’ve had a good soaking for the last 24 hours and the creosote didn’t disappoint.

It was a great reminder for me to never take any aspect of nature for granted. We live in a magnificent world. I need to get out and be reminded of that sometimes, though.

Why do I need the reminder? Well… this mistaken understanding of life takes over sometimes. Life has been mislabeled in some ways as a necessary struggle that keeps us away from frivolous things like getting back to nature. Well the struggle is not necessary, and getting back to nature isn’t frivolous.

Part of connecting to the inherent truth of being… that is, “we are God”… is to remember that there is nothing that isn’t God. All nature is God and it is worth it to return to the nature of our being, by being in nature.

So today’s practice is to find a way to get back to nature. It doesn’t have to be your whole day, but find 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes… an hour or more if you desire, to focus on the magnificence of nature. And do that in nature!

Life abounds, and you are a part of it!

“The first principle fundamental to the understanding of the operation of thought is, that we are surrounded by an Infinite Intelligence. The possibility of healing … rests entirely on the theory that we are surrounded by an Infinite Mind, which reacts to our thought according to Law.”
