In C.S. Lewis's novel The Silver Chair Aslan the Lion gives instructions to a little girl named Jill. As a part of these instructions he gives her three signs to remember. She's told to repeat the signs several times a day so she doesn't forget. She fails to do that and the journey is more difficult as a result.

In the journey of faith it's easy to forget the instructions we've been given and so we have to build discipline and habits that will help us to remember.
