  • Episode 151: "Revive Us Again"
William P. Mackay was an atheist doctor in Edinburgh, Scotland when he encountered Jesus. His penniless patient had died, leaving behind a Bible in his bed. As the nurse handed him the Bible, he opened it and discovered his name and a Scripture verse written in his own mother's handwriting. It was the Bible he had carelessly pawned years earlier for more money to buy liquor. That moment altered his life. He accepted Christ and become one of the most well-known and respected preachers in all of Scotland. He also wrote several hymns, the most popular among them "Revive Us Again." Join me to learn more about William Mackay and this powerful hymn.

  • Episode 150: Hosanna!
As we approach Palm Sunday -- the start of Passion Week leading us to Resurrection Day -- the Hosanna! is brought up again. It's what the people shouted in praise as Jesus rode into the city of Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, fulfilling prophecy from hundreds of years earlier. It's what the children sang out in the Temple as they followed on Jesus's heels into His house. What does "Hosanna" mean? Join me as we study a second important Hebrew word of praise and adoration.

  • Episode 145: "Be Thou My Vision"
"Be Thou My Vision" is a timeless hymn dating back almost 2,000 years. A blind poet, a pagan king, and a formerly kidnapped missionary all were involved in its origins. Stretching across the millenia, two women at the beginning of the twentieth century brought these beautiful lyrics through translation into English, and matched the words with their original Irish tune, "Slane." Join me today as we learn more about "Be Thou My Vision."
