Ep. 163 || Jason discovers that he is Mike's hero, 2021 reflections and 2022 predictions
Before Jason and Mike rip the covers off 2021 and process the good, bad, and ugly of what they did in 2021, they battle in The Office trivia for a second time. You may remember that Mike dominated last time. Will the results be different this time???
After some good laughs, Jason and Mike get serious and examine how they personally did in 2021.
Then Jason and Mike make some bold predictions for each other in 2022. Will they be right? There’s only one way to find out.

We will be back on Jan 14th 2022 with a brand new episode! Thanks for listening!
Ben & Jason are raving fans of mental health therapy. But they had some lingering questions about the therapy process, and what healthy boundaries with a therapist look like.
Why do therapists awkwardly stop talking in a session? Why don't therapists just tell you what to do? How "informed" should clients be about the goings-on of their therapist? Can you be friends with your therapist??
And what on earth is up with quick-fix modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)? Are all CBT practitioners crocks??

Ben and Jason are taking a few weeks off over the holidays to recalibrate and enjoy some down time. This week, take a walk down memory lane to August, when we had Ben's son Stefan on the show. Not only is this episode a favorite of Ben's, it is also a cherished family memory for Ben and Stefan. It was a gift to both!

Ben brings up a sermon he heard at church over 10 years ago to get us started. We talk about what is the easiest and most difficult to give of - our time, our talent, or or treasure.
Mike introduces the 80/20 rule of life and how it is impacting how he views parenting, fitness, and more.
Jason wraps us up by talking about the stupid stress of giving gifts at Christmas, and how holidays are difficult for those who grew up with ongoing trauma in the home.

Mike joins us for another conversation among friends. Our discussion centers around the legacy we are leaving with our kids, and the legacy that was left for us by our parents and grandparents. How do we react (or overreact!) to our kids when they are acting out? We wrap by talking about the impact that Michigan's covid surge is having on each of us and our families.

Mike joins us this month as we sit down and press record. These episodes are sure to be a treat, like eavesdropping on the conversations among good friends. All three of the guys open up with varying levels of vulnerability... and one of them even sheds a tear or two! Bet you can't guess who!

This was a hard episode. Jason's mom, who was abusive to him and his siblings growing up, was on death's doorstep as we recorded this episode. We hope that Jason's transparency and honesty about the situation is helpful to other adult children of abusive parents who are nearing death.
We also chatted about a book that Ben is reading for work, and why it's so hard for Ben to be "told" what to do. Ben also talked about the TV drama A Million Little Things and how it is not his usual show.
We wrap up by talking about the things we're grateful for, in the spirit of Thanksgiving this week.

Listen as Meaghan (Jason's wife) and Andi (Ben's wife) join us for an unfiltered conversation about gender roles and the often invisible burden that wives typically carry. Things get a bit tense and uncomfortable at some points, but that is where growth happens.
We spent a lot of time discussing this article: https://www.fatherly.com/love-money/emotional-labor-marriage-care/
