1. FoodShare benefits are now available for Wisconsinites. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says full November benefits are now on all QUEST cards. It's a big relief for many families today. 700-thousand Wisconsinites depend on FoodShare. This has been and remains a confusing time for people. There's been so much back and forth regarding SNAP food assistance. In fact, just today the Trump administration filed an emergency appeal after the judge's order yesterday directing the government to fully fund SNAP by today.
2. Flight cuts begin. A 4% reduction in domestic flights is in effect following an order from the Federal Aviation Administration. It currently affects 40 airports in major US cities, but further cuts are planned in coming days, due to staffing issues caused by the government shutdown. Hundreds of flights are being affected, about 800 flights at main hubs across the US have been canceled today, and travelers are frustrated with the disruptions. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy cited safety concerns as the reason for the cutbacks and warned this morning that when the government reopens travel will not bounce back immediately. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats signaled yesterday they were prepared to block GOP plans to force a vote today, until they got more commitments on dealing with rising health care costs.
3. Nine people are still missing after the deadly plane crash in Kentucky this week. A UPS cargo plane crashed Tuesday just after taking off from the Louisville airport. The plane reportedly showed signs of damage at a recent repair stop. At least 13 people are reported dead.
