Leadership within medicine is something that I believe is truly underrated. We are not taught how to be leaders in medical school... instead the system is great at making followers.
However, as physicians we are leaders and we lead multiple teams. This podcast I discuss the three leadership competencies outlined by Retired General Mark Hertling in the book "Growing Physician Leaders." I am currently studying this book and it is a fantastic read. This is the first of many episodes to come discussing things that I have learned in this book.
The three competencies are to lead, to develop, and to achieve. Listen for a breakdown of these three competencies in our leadership as physicians.
