The purpose for the whole gospel account in two simple verses.

Jesus is taken to the governor (Pilate) to give his side of the story. Jesus doesn't have a side. He just has the truth.

Jesus is arrested and put on trial but doesn't back down from his confession.

Jesus prays for the people who would follow him. He stands between God and the people to bring the two together.

Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to give us courage and power while we wait for our joy in him to be restored.

Everyone gets cut. Everyone!

John includes things no other writer includes. This chapter is one of those things.

Jesus washes the disciples feet but doesn't stop there.
