Matthew 13:1-23 recounts Jesus’ Parable of the Sower. He describes a farmer scattering seed that falls on four types of soil: a path where birds eat it, rocky ground where it withers, among thorns that choke it, and good soil where it produces an abundant crop. Later, Jesus explains the story to His disciples: the seed is God’s Word, and the soils represent hearts—hardened, shallow, distracted by worries or riches, and receptive. Only the “good soil” hears, understands, and bears lasting fruit.
