Thriving in The Word episodes

  • Return of the lowercase gods - Judges 1-7 & Galatians 1-2, Week 8

This discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Lenny Salgado, Johnny V, Ben Cossette, Mike McHugh, and James Gowell.

This week, we have an interesting "false start" with Dave sharing about a new book he is reading by Jonathon Cahn titled The Return of the gods (lowercase g) and Dave shares an example from the book, where they did a huge gala and unavailing of the Arch of Baal on display in Washington DC.

Judah then officially kicks off the episode and mentions our new additional series where we will be studying Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis (so be on the lookout for that) chapter by chapter. After the introduction, Johnny kicks us off by sharing about the juxtaposition of the One True God and the many lowercase gods that ultimately lead us to the lake of fire.

Dave responds by sharing about today's culture and the similarities to the Israelites and the Galatians through disobedience and how religion was used to divide the people. Johnny responds with an actual definition of "bewitched" and applies this to both the Israelites and Galatians worshipping false idols.

The group then talks about the United States of America being a God founded country and how society has eroded by removing the Ten Commandments from the Supreme Court and the removal of talking about God in nearly all institutions.

This is a recap of the first 15 minutes and the remaining 20'ish minutes are full of great stuff for you reflect on as you read the Book of Judges and Book of Galatians along with us.

    Thank you for listening!

This week's discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Lenny Salgado, Johnny V, Mike McHugh, and James Gowell.

This week, Dave starts by reading Galatians re: "letting the Holy Spirit guide your lives" and it this launched a Spirit lead discussion about; the Holy Spirit, sinful nature, distractions, how can we love others if we don't love ourselves, free will to sin as well as not to sin, being obedient to the Holy Spirit, competing voices in our heads, not being able to hear God's voice, selfish ambition, stumbling blocks in our relationship with Christ, Mere Christianity by CS Lewis and so much more.

  • A Libertarian Walks into a Bear - Judges 1-7 & Galatians 1-2, Week 6

This week's discussion features Judah Thomas, David LaManna, Ben Cossette, Mike McHugh, and James Gowell.

This week, we discuss having patience while reading the bible and making the Bible your friend.

We then discuss the intent of human nature which sparks Judah bringing up a book titled, "A Libertarian Walks into a Bear" which is a true story documenting the Free Town Project in Grafton, NH. In 2001, thousands of libertarians settled into what was a crime free, safe and clean town. Not a shocker, the “Nobody tells me what to do!” attitude didn't end well...any relation to the Book of Judges? Hmmm, Judges 21:25 "In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes."

We then talk about complacent spiritual attitudes, God's creation of chaos and confusion, the refusal to listen and respond to repeated warnings and the reality that it is not the do's and don'ts, it is all about being in right relationship with God, loving God with all that you have and loving your neighbor as yourself, and so much more.

    Enjoy!

About Thriving in The Word

From the publisher's feed

At Thriving in The Word we believe in a slower study of scripture. Sure you can cook a steak in the microwave, but would you want to eat it. It’s much better slow cooked, and that’s how we take our Bible study. We study the Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, and at times even word by word.
