  • Pulse 171: Neuron-Like Nanotech for Brain-Like Computers
Brain-inspired or “neuromorphic” computers could be much more efficient than current digital technologies for a wide range of applications. Now, scientists have developed nanomachines that act almost identically to brain cells (see below). These nanomachines could open the door to powerful brain-like computing. “This is the first study where we have been able to emulate a neuron with just a single nanoscale device, which would otherwise need hundreds of transistors,” said lead researcher Stanley Williams, as reported in a press release issued by Texas A&M University. “We have also been able to successfully use networks of our artificial neurons to solve toy versions of a real-world problem that is computationally intense even for the most sophisticated digital technologies.” We can leverage neuroscience “for solving problems that the brain is exceptionally good at,” added Williams. “We have demonstrated that depending on the type of problem, there are different and more efficient ways of doing computations other than the conventional methods using digital computers with transistors.” Nanomachines Emulate brain Cells Scientists at Texas A&M University, Hewlett Packard Labs, and Stanford University, have developed a nanoscale device that acts almost identically to a brain cell (neuron). The synthetic nanoscale device, or synthetic brain cell, consists of layers of different inorganic materials. A research paper is published in Nature. It shows that these synthetic brain cells can be joined together to form intricate networks that can then solve problems in a brain-like manner. For example, these brain-like networks can identify possible mutations in a virus. Molecular Blocks for Rebuilding Antibiotics Researchers at UC San Francisco have re-designed and re-engineered existing antibiotic molecules to overcome antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic resistance is one of the world's most urgent public health threats. A paper is published in Nature. It describes a set of molecular LEGO-like pieces that can be altered and joined together to form larger molecules. Using these molecular building blocks, the researchers have created what they hope is the first of many "rebuilds" of drugs that had been shelved due to antibiotic resistance. Artificial Cells for Next-Generation Smart Drugs Chemists at University of Alberta and University of Trento have developed artificial cells that can communicate with other cells within the body. They have potential applications in the field of smart pharmaceuticals. The artificial cells are described in a study published in Science Advances. They work by detecting changes in their environment within the body. In response, the artificial cells create and release proteins that influence the behavior of other cells within the body. The new artificial cells are the first that can chemically communicate with and influence the behavior of natural living cells. The chemists are hopeful that, in future smart pharmaceuticals, artificial cells could be engineered to synthesize and deliver specific therapeutic molecules inside the body. CRISPR-Based Field Test for Malaria Scientists led by Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering and MIT have created a malaria test. This field-applicable, ultrasensitive testing method for both symptomatic and asymptomatic malaria has been developed using cut and paste CRISPR DNA editing technology. The new malaria diagnostic method is described in a research paper published in PNAS. It combines an optimized 10-minute rapid sample preparation protocol with the CRISPR-based SHERLOCK system. Together, they enable highly specific and sensitive detection of malaria within about an hour.

  • Pulse 170: New Drug Treats COVID-19 in Mice and Hamsters
A new drug, called "Ab8," shows promise in the fight against COVID-19 (see below). The tiny size of the molecules upon which the drug is based "not only increases its potential for diffusion in tissues to better neutralize the virus, but also makes it possible to administer the drug by alternative routes, including inhalation," notes a press release issued by University of Pittsburgh. "Importantly, it does not bind to human cells - a good sign that it won’t have negative side-effects in people." "Ab8 not only has potential as therapy for COVID-19, but it also could be used to keep people from getting SARS-CoV-2 infections,” said researcher John Mellors. “The COVID-19 pandemic is a global challenge facing humanity, but biomedical science and human ingenuity are likely to overcome it. We hope that the antibodies we have discovered will contribute to that triumph." New Drug Neutralizes SARS-CoV-2 Virus Researchers led by University of Pittsburgh have isolated the smallest biological molecule to date that completely and specifically neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This virus is the cause of COVID-19. The antibody component is 10 times smaller than a full-sized antibody. It has been used to construct a drug known as "Ab8." It has potential use as a therapeutic and prophylactic against SARS-CoV-2. A research paper is published in Cell. It reports that Ab8 is highly effective in preventing and treating SARS-CoV-2 infection in mice and hamsters. Abound Bio, a newly formed company, has licensed Ab8 for worldwide development. Killer T Cells Reduce COVID-19 Severity Researchers at La Jolla Institute for Immunology have found that a multi-layered, virus-specific immune response is important for controlling SARS-CoV-2 during the acute phase of infection. It may reduce COVID-19 disease severity, with the bulk of the evidence pointing to a much bigger role for T cells than antibodies. A weak or uncoordinated immune response, on the other hand, predicts a poor disease outcome. The findings are published in Cell. They suggest that vaccine candidates should aim to elicit a broad immune response that include antibodies, as well as helper and killer T cells to ensure protective immunity. Specific Brain Cells Determine Ability to Adapt Experimenting with laboratory mice, researchers at University of Zurich have found which neurons in the brain are in command in guiding adaptive behavior. This behavior is the ability to constantly adapt to new situations. A study is published in Nature. It indicates that a group of brain cells in the orbitofrontal cortex is particularly active during the relearning process. It appears that this is crucial to behavioral flexibility and our ability to adapt to new situations. The researchers are persuaded that the findings may contribute to a better understanding of brain disorders in which the flexibility in decision making is impaired. This is the case, for example, in various forms of autism and schizophrenia. Enhanced Dopamine Sensors for Brain Disorders Scientists at UC Davis have enhanced a single fluorescent protein-based biosensor. It enables high resolution, real-time imaging of the spatial and temporal release of dopamine in live animals. A research paper is published in Nature Methods. It reports that the scientists have expanded the color spectrum of a previously developed biosensor. The new sensors permit studying dopamine's release in more detail, and model its effects on neural circuits. This could facilitate the development of safer next-generation therapies to neuropsychiatric disorders. In particular, it may help in cases such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and addiction. Soy-Based Compounds Reduce Bone Cancer Researchers at Washington State University have found that the slow release of soy-based chemical compounds from a 3D-printed bone-like scaffold resulted in a reduction in bone cancer cells. It also built up healthy cells and reduced harmful inflammation. Soybeans contain estroge ...

  • Pulse 169: Synthetic Antivirals Against COVID-19
Scientists at University of Washington have designed and synthesized miniproteins that act as potent and stable stable antivirals. They block coronavirus infection of cultured human cells (see below). "Although extensive clinical testing is still needed, we believe the best of these computer-generated antivirals are quite promising," notes lead author Longxing Cao in a University of Washington press release. "They appear to block SARS-CoV-2 infection at least as well as monoclonal antibodies, but are much easier to produce and far more stable, potentially eliminating the need for refrigeration." "Our success in designing high-affinity antiviral proteins from scratch is further proof that computational protein design can be used to create promising drug candidates," added Prof. David Baker. Promise of Synthetic Antivirals for COVID-19 Researchers at University of Washington have shown that computer-designed miniproteins can protect lab-grown human cells from SARS-CoV-2. This is the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The new synthetic antiviral candidates were designed to prevent infection by interfering with the mechanism that coronaviruses use to break into and enter cells. A study is published in Science. It indicates that the lead antiviral candidate rivals the best-known SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibodies in its protective actions. DNA Nanotechnology for Cancer Immunotherapy Scientists at Wistar Institute successfully delivered nanoparticle-based cancer vaccines. They stimulated robust cell immunity and controlled melanoma growth in preclinical models. A research paper is published in Cancer Immunology Research. It suggests that DNA-launched nanoparticle vaccination (DLnano-vaccines), developed using synthetic DNA technology, may be designed for various types of cancer. This could be a promising strategy for cancer immunotherapy. Synthetic Molecular Bricks Kill Cancer Cells Researchers at Max Planck Institute have found that the self-destruction mechanism of cancer cells can be activated. This is done by means of targeted and localized disruption of structure of the cells. Laboratory experiments are described in a study published in Journal of the American Chemical Society. They have already demonstrated initial successes. The researchers have synthetically produced molecular “Lego bricks” that travel into both normal and cancer cells. If indicators of cancer are found, the individual Lego bricks can connect and form a large web-like network. The web grows inside the cancer cells. It is extremely stable and deforms the cancer cells from the inside out. Unable to cope with the physical stress, the cancer cell activates its own self-destruction mechanism. Selectively Killing Cancer Cells Scientists at Johns Hopkins Medicine and University of Oxford have suggested a new way to kill some multiplying human breast cancer cells. This is done by selectively attacking the core of their cell division machinery. The technique has, so far, been tested only on lab-grown and patient-derived cancer cells. It is described in a research paper published in Nature. The scientists are persuaded that the findings could advance efforts to find drugs that kill breast cancer cells in a subset of patients, and leave healthy cells unharmed. Control Gene Activation in Biotechnology Researchers at UC San Diego have solved a long-standing DNA activation code mystery. This was done with the aid of artificial intelligence. Human genes are known to be activated through instructions delivered by the precise order of our DNA. But how three-quarters are turned on, or promoted, has remained a mystery so far due to the enormous number of DNA base sequence possibilities. A paper was published in Nature. It identifies a frequently used DNA activation code. According to the researchers, it could eventually be used to control gene activation in biotechnology and biomedical applications. • Pulse 168: Reactions to Neuralink Update
The Neuralink website has been revamped after the technology update released last week. Of course, the update has been widely covered by the press. According to Wired, Neuralink technology “looks awesome.” The Neuralink device, with “sensors for motion, temperature, and pressure and 1,024 thin, flexible wires to pick up the electrical signals neurons put out while they’re neuron-ing,” is much better than the relatively crude tools used today by neuroscientists. “Musk now has a device that’s at least 10 times better,” said Christof Koch, chief scientist at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, as reported by Wired. Wired notes that, according to Musk, one day “Neuralink would be able to record and replay memories, even save them to an external drive and download them into a robot body. He said people with implants would be capable of telepathy.” "In terms of their technology, 1,024 channels is not that impressive these days, but the electronics to relay them wirelessly is state-of-the-art, and the robotic implantation is nice,” said neuroscientist Andrew Jackson, as reported by BBC News. Both the Wired and BBC stories, as well as many others, use the word “hype” a lot. The headlines read, respectively, “Neuralink Is Impressive Tech, Wrapped in Musk Hype,” and “Is Elon Musk over-hyping his brain-hacking Neuralink tech?” In my own commentary, titled “ Pigs in cyberspace: Neuralink and the noosphere,” I argue that what Elon Musk has done and continues to do (not only with Neuralink, but also with Tesla and SpaceX) deserves praise and admiration. And, why not, some degree of hype. Of course one should be careful with excessive expectations and over-hype, but to me a world without hype is a world without hope. And hope is what we and our societies really, urgently, desperately need. Nanobodies Protect Human Cells from COVID-19 Scientists at Karolinska Institute have identified a small neutralizing antibody, a so-called nanobody. It has the capacity to block SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, from entering human cells. A research paper was published in Nature Communications. It suggests that this nanobody offers several advantages over conventional antibodies as candidates for specific therapies. The researchers believe this nanobody has the potential to be developed as an antiviral treatment against COVID-19. Hydrogel Anti-Rejection Drug for Grafted Hearts Researchers at Johns Hopkins Medicine and National Cancer Institute have demonstrated the possibility of easily delivering a promising anti-rejection drug directly to the area surrounding a grafted heart. They did this in laboratory mice by packaging drug within a tiny three-dimensional protein gel cocoon known as a hydrogel. A study is published in Small. It indicates that the release of the drug is spread out over time. This makes it highly regulatable. And it eliminates the need for daily medication to keep rejection in check. Combined Immunotherapies Show Powerful Effects City of Hope scientists have combined two potent immunotherapies. They are an oncolytic virus and a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy. The combination targets and eradicates solid tumors that are otherwise difficult to treat with CAR T therapy alone. A research paper is published in Science Translational Medicine. It describes how the scientists designed and engineered an oncolytic virus to enter cancer cells in laboratory mice. And they used the cells’ own machinery to replicate itself, and engineer the cancer cells to express a CAR T agent. The combination had a powerful effect. The immune system built a memory response to the tumor. And it shielded the mice against cancer recurrences. Regulate Cell Suicide to Boost Immunotherapy Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers have found that a gene that may be the culprit in making breast cancer and melanoma cells resistant to therapies that use the immune system to fight cancer. The gene is responsible for turning off a cell's natural "s ...

  • Thrivous Develops Tenacity Arthroprotector Formula 2

Orem UT – Thrivous, the human enhancement company, has released Tenacity Arthroprotector Formula 2 with Vitamin D3. Tenacity is the advanced geroprotector dietary supplement that Thrivous develops to enhance joint and bone function for better aging.

Vitamin D3 is the most bioavailable form of Vitamin D. Multiple human studies show that Vitamin D may support healthy mobility, decrease risk of falls, and support overall better aging. Multiple human studies also show that Vitamin D may support immune system performance and enhance cognitive functions.

By some estimates, approximately 93% of people in the United States consume less than the estimated average requirements for Vitamin D from natural sources and fortified foods. And a larger unknown percentage consume less than optimal amounts. For details, see the summary of clinical studies for Tenacity Arthroprotector.

Tenacity combines multiple geroprotectors for joints and bones into a single formula in a delayed-release capsule. In addition to a clinical dose of Vitamin D3, it provides clinical doses of:

    • ApresFlex Boswellia Serrata Resin Extract
    • Black Pepper Piperine Extract

      • Pulse 167: Meet Gertrude the Pig and Neuralink
I guess all readers know that Elon Musk’s company Neuralink is developing some kind of awesome brain interfacing technology. But official updates are not released frequently. More than one year ago, Pulse covered the last (until now) official update. Now Elon Musk has delivered a new Neuralink update, live streamed and published on YouTube. In his opening remarks, Musk called for engineers to apply for jobs at Neuralink. The star of the presentation was a pig named Gertrude, outfitted with Neuralink’s brain implant. “Gertrude shuffled around her pen, sniffing the ground and eating, while loud beeps and blips filled the air and a display showed real-time spikes in her brain activity,” summarizes CNN. “Musk explained that Gertrude had the implant inserted in her head two months before, and that it connected to neurons in her snout. When she touched something with her snout, it sent out neural spikes that were detected by the more than 1,000 electrodes in the implant.” Neuralink’s tiny interface device is easily implanted into the skull. It's easy to install, remove, and power. And it communicates wirelessly, and can stimulate the brain besides reading it. Musk said that Neuralink received an FDA " breakthrough device " designation in July and is preparing for its first implantation in a human. There are, of course, important medical applications envisaged for Neuralink technology. Paralyzed patients could use the neural interface to control prosthetic limbs and computers. Conditions such as depression and insomnia, and even deafness and blindness, could be eventually cured. But it’s easy to see that, besides medical applications, Neuralink’s brain interfacing technology could enable science-fictional applications like technological telepathy, or blending human and artificial intelligence (AI). “On a species level, it’s important to figure out how we coexist with advanced AI, achieving some AI symbiosis,” said Musk, “That might be the most important thing that a device like this achieves.” Musk’s announcement has been widely and enthusiastically covered by the press. Of course there are exceptions, such as an MIT Technology Review commentary that is, unfortunately, a hatchet job of pompous, pedantic, pointless, and hateful criticism for its own sake. This is typical of what I have come to expect from a certain type of “intellectual.” Let me, instead, add mine to the many voices that enthusiastically praise this and other accomplishments of Elon Musk and his teams. Of course the road is long, but I think there are good things ahead. Synthetic Proteins Repair Neural Connections Researchers at German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Keio University, and Aichi Medical University have developed a neurologically active synthetic protein. And they tested it in laboratory studies. One study is published in Science. It shows that the experimental compound ameliorated symptoms of certain neurological injuries and diseases in mice. And, on the microscopic level, it was able to establish and repair connections between neurons. This proof-of-principle study suggests that biologics could be of clinical use in the long term. Biologics act on neuronal connectivity. Brain Imaging Analysis Boosts Brain Treatments Duke University scientists have developed a new method of brain imaging analysis. It offers the potential greatly to improve the effectiveness of noninvasive brain stimulation treatment. This may help in cases of Alzheimer's, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, and other conditions. The new method is described in a research paper published in The Journal of Neuroscience. It analyzed the whole brain network rather than a single region of the brain. And it identified brain areas that exert the most control on network function. The scientists are persuaded that brain stimulation can promote healthy brain activity patterns. And it may eventually enhance memory function and treat a r ...

      • Pulse 166: The Fusion of Electronics and the Human Body
Scientists are taking steps toward integrating electronics with the body. Such devices could monitor for tumor development or stand in for damaged tissues. But “connecting electronics directly to human tissues in the body is a huge challenge,” notes a press release issued by the American Chemical Society (ACS). “Now, a team is reporting new coatings for components that could help them more easily fit into this environment.” The scientists found that a polymer had the properties necessary for interfacing hardware and human tissue. The research results have been presented at the American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall 2020 Virtual Meeting & Expo. The scientists are “using flexible, organic electronics rather than rigid materials like silicon and covering them with bio-friendly coatings,” notes Futurism. According to research leader David Martin, these biological-synthetic hybrid materials might someday be useful in merging artificial intelligence with the human brain. Other related and intriguing advances have been presented at the ACS Fall 2020 Virtual Meeting & Expo. “Electronic devices and biological cells communicate through very different mechanisms,” notes another ACS press release. “Now, scientists report progress on tiny communication networks that overcome this language barrier, allowing electronics to eavesdrop on cells and alter their behavior - and vice versa.” Nanoparticles Deliver Genetic therapy to Mice Scientists led by Ohio State University have engineered lipid-based nanoparticles carrying two sets of protein-making instructions. The results of a study with laboratory mice were published in Science Advances. They suggest that the new nanoparticles have the potential to function as therapies for two genetic disorders. In one experiment, the payload-containing nanoparticles prompted the production of the missing clotting protein in mice that are models for hemophilia. In another test, the nanoparticles' cargo reduced the activation level of a gene that, when overactive, interferes with clearance of cholesterol from the bloodstream. Nanoscale Devices Target Drugs to Specific Cells Scientists at University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have designed new nanoscale devices. They are made of synthetic proteins, which target a therapeutic agent only to cells with specific, predetermined combinations of cell surface markers. The devices are described in a research paper published in Science. They operate on their own and search out cells they were programmed to find. The hope is that they might guide CAR T cancer therapy and other treatments where precision is critical, through a sort of molecular beacon. Bioluminescent Tag Monitors DNA Repair in Vivo Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital and the Academia Sinica have developed a new bioluminescent tag. It tracks DNA double stranded break (DSB) repair in cells. The new bioluminescent repair reporter (BLRR)-based system is described in a paper published in Nucleic Acids Research. It can be used to monitor DNA repair processes directly in animals as well as cell lines. No such system previously existed for in vivo studies. DSB damage repair is key to maintaining genomic integrity and cell viability. And it plays a crucial role in multiple conditions, including cancer. Engineered Molecule Activates Anti-Cancer Protein Scientists at Scripps Research have discovered a molecule that can activate a natural immune-boosting protein called STING. The findings are reported in a research paper published in Science. They mark a key advance in the field of oncology. The STING protein is known for its strong anti-tumor properties. STING (short for STimulator of INterferon Genes) marshals the immune system against viral and cancerous invaders. Because of its role in promoting anti-tumor immunity, it has garnered enthusiastic interest from drug developers. The scientists engineered a molecule that reduced the growth of an aggressive form of me ...

      • Pulse 165: Therapeutic Strategies for Motivation
There is no question that motivation is one of the hardest and yet important factors in life, notes a press release issued by Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). "It's the difference between success and failure, goal-setting and aimlessness, well-being and unhappiness. And yet, why is it so hard to get motivated - or even if we do, to keep it up?" EPFL neuroscientists have advanced toward answering this question (see below). The findings provide novel insights in the field of motivation neuroscience," said research co-leader Carmen Sandi. "They show that the balance between glutamine and glutamate can help predict specific, computational components of motivated performance. Our approach and data can also help us develop therapeutic strategies, including nutritional interventions, that address deficits in effort engagement by targeting metabolism." I am persuaded that lack of sustained motivation is a curse. And I would certainly welcome new light therapeutic options, such as nootropics. See Thrivous Nootropic Stack. Neurotransmitters Are Key to Motivation Neuroscientists at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) have discovered that the key to motivation and sustained performance lies within the ratio of two neurotransmitters in the brain: glutamine and glutamate. A study was published in Neuropsychopharmacology. It indicates that the balance of glutamine and glutamate in a region of the brain sitting close to the bottom of brain, called “nucleus accumbens,” relates to our capacity for maintaining performance over a long period of time. Researchers cal this "stamina." Nanotubes Allow Retinal Cells to Communicate Researchers at University of Montreal have discovered a previously unknown mechanism of blood redistribution. It is essential for the proper functioning of the adult retina. A paper was published in Nature. It identifies a communication structure between cells that is required to coordinate blood supply in the living retina. Pericytes are cells that have the ability to control the amount of blood passing through a single capillary. Using a microscopy technique to visualize vascular changes in living mice, the researchers showed that pericytes project very thin nanotubes. The inter-pericyte tunnelling nanotubes enable communication with other pericytes located in distant capillaries. Through these nanotubes, the pericytes can talk to each other and deliver blood where it is most needed. Inhalable Protection Against COVID-19 Scientists at UC San Francisco have devised a new approach to halting the spread of SARS-CoV-2. This is the virus that causes COVID-19. A research preprint was published in bioRxiv. It reports that the scientists engineered a completely synthetic, production-ready molecule that straitjackets the crucial SARS-CoV-2 machinery that allows the virus to infect our cells. The scientists tested an aerosol formulation, dubbed "AeroNabs,” which could be self-administered with a nasal spray or inhaler. Used once a day, AeroNabs could provide powerful, reliable protection against SARS-CoV-2 until a vaccine becomes available. Memory in Older People May Be Different Scientists at Washington University have found that brain activity in older adults isn't necessarily quieter when it comes to memory, but just different. A study was published in Nature Communications. It indicates that certain areas of the brain, implicated in broad, schematic knowledge, are especially active in older adults. In practice, this suggests that younger people might be more focused on the specifics of a situation. And older people might pay more attention to the broader picture. Cancer Immunotherapy Boosted in Mice In a mouse study, researchers at Washington University have found that an antibody that targets a protein called TREM2 empowers tumor-destroying immune cells. And it improves the effectiveness of cancer immunotherapy. The researchers injected cancerous cells into mice. All of the mice that were then tr ...

            • Thrivous Redesigns Surge and Serenity Capsules

Orem UT – Thrivous, the human enhancement company, has redesigned the capsules for Surge Acute Nootropic and Serenity Nightly Nootropic. Surge is a premium nootropic supplement that enhances productivity, energy, and focus. Serenity is a premium nootropic supplement that enhances relaxation, sleep, and next-day focus. The benefits of these nootropics are complementary when Surge is used before work and Serenity is used before sleep.

The new capsule designs for Surge and Serenity reflect Thrivous' commitment to persistent innovation in response to customer feedback. The original capsules for both products were transparent, which displayed the color of the powder inside the capsules. Because the powder of both products is white, the original Surge and Serenity capsules looked the same. Customers asked Thrivous to make the capsules look different in order to minimize risk of confusion.

Surge Acute Nootropic is now delivered in carmine capsules with an orange color. Carmine is a natural pigment derived from insects. The Surge label now also incorporates an orange band around its top, as a visual association between the bottle and the capsules.

Serenity Nightly Nootropic is now delivered in chlorophyll capsules with a green color. Chlorophyll is a natural pigment derived from plants. The Serenity label now also incorporates a green band around its top, as a visual association between the bottle and the capsules.

"Thrivous customers love Surge and Serenity," said Lincoln Cannon, CEO at Thrivous. "They love the practical benefits that these potent nootropics provide on demand. But that potency can be a problem, if you intend to use one nootropic but accidentally use the other. So now we're giving our customers more to love, by ensuring that they can easily distinguish between the capsules."

Surge and Serenity contain only nutrients and doses based on high levels of evidence for safety and efficacy from multiple clinical studies on humans — no experimental substances and no placebo dust. Because science is never finished, Thrivous monitors and analyzes new studies, consults with its advisor board of physicians and scientists, and seeks continuously to improve all of its supplement formulas.

Surge and Serenity pass through multiple rounds of rigorous quality control. Suppliers subject each nutrient to identity, potency, microbial, heavy metals, and other testing as appropriate prior to manufacturing. Manufacturing follows strict GMP regulation from the FDA in audited and certified facilities, verifying the test results of suppliers, and subjecting combined nutrients to additional testing.

Surge and Serenity have open source formulas, clearly identifying all nutrients and doses — no hiding behind secret proprietary blends. Thrivous publishes a certificate of analysis and quality for each of its supplements, transparently revealing all test results from suppliers and manufacturing. And it also publishes a summary of clinical studies for each supplement, sharing the science behind its formulas.
