Steelers legendary DB and 4 time Super Bowl Champion J.T. Thomas joins us on this segment of Thursday Night Tailgate. He talks about his time playing at Florida State and his expectations for them this season. He shared stories about Chuck Noll, what it was like being a 1st round pick, his first training camp and how just about everyone smoked in the locker room before games and during half-time back then. He also gave us his thoughts on the Steelers defense and what they need to do in order to be better this season.

In our Spotlight on the Positive segment this week we spotlight the great things Jaguars DT Malik Jackson continues to do and the great work former Lions Tackle Ray Roberts does with Intellectually challenged children.

We started out with Cris talking about his college playing days at Purdue and playing alongside Rod Woodson. Their freshman year they swept Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan, be coming the first Purdue team to ever do that. When he got to Houston Nick Saban was the DB Coach and Cris shared what it was like playing for him. We also heard what it was like showing up in training camp as a rookie 5th round pick and trying to make a name for yourself going up against Warren Moon, Ernest Giving, Drew Hill and Haywood Jeffires at practice. 

We carried the theme of CTE from our previous guest former BC Lions WR Marco Iannuzzi over to our discussion with Nick who is working with a company creating molecules that can help the brain cushion itself and potentially regenerate damaged cells. We also got his thoughts on the new kickoff rules and the difficulties the officials will in determininig any associated penalties. Prepare for more yellow flags…

Ross talked about his college playing days at Princeton, how he got in and managed to be a two time Academic All-American. He said it’s all in class choices you make. He shared the story of the brawl he and his Redskins teammate LaVarr Arrington got into during practice that could have ended very badly. He also talked about how he got into broadcasting and where you’ll be able to hear him this Fall

Marco retired from the BC Lions of the CFL at the end of last season. He said why at age 31 he decided to walk away and the impact CTE and 2 major concussions had on his decision. Marco is a graduate of both Harvard and MIT and he shared stories of playing in “The Game”, Harvard vs. Yale.
