Jeff Hendrix on Matthew 3:13-17/Psalm 29: We start our new sermon series on The Promises of God with this look at the promise of new life. The voice of God speaks and new life begins. As it was in Genesis 1 and as it is noted throughout Psalm 29. Then at Jesus baptism, the voice speaks again, calling Jesus his beloved. The good news today is that God's voice speaks over us calling us beloved and he sends his spirit to affirm that in our lives and ministry.

Jeff Hendrix on Matthew 1:18-25. On this fourth Sunday of Advent we look at what happens when Love and hopes for the future meet a major disruption. When Mary becomes pregnant and Joseph is confronted with a decision. Stick around or take off. But then God sends an angel...and everything gets re-framed.

Jeff Hendrix on Matthew 11:2-11 This third Sunday in Advent brings us to the Sunday of Joy. In this passage we see John the Baptist, who was the one who proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah now questioning whether Jesus is really the Messiah. Expectations can sow disappointment and our task is dying to our expectations of who Jesus is and just follow him and allow him to reveal his joy to us.

Jeff Hendrix on Matthew 3:1-12: 2nd Sunday of Advent. This week TICF enters into a major transition. In the midst of that transition we find John the Baptist calling us into a deeper understanding of what it means to prepare the way for the Lord. Not just going to church and relying on a heritage of church attendance but really showing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.

The author of Hebrews give us a wrap up of what all of this has been building to. The greater sacrifice, greater high priest, greater sanctuary...all of it leading to Mount Zion and a party to end all parties. But what does it look like to live in the Greater Kingdom?
