Discovering buried treasure – or maybe winning the lottery – how cool would that be? One of the word pictures Jesus used to talk about life with God is the word “treasure”. Today we dig into that idea and ask ourselves what is faith and life with God really worth?

Let’s get naked!

Many of us live behind masks – carefully managing how the world sees us, and secretly afraid that people might see the real us behind the mask. This isn’t a new thing, in fact we see the roots of this behaviour all the way back in the opening pages of the Bible story. But Jesus life and death opened a new way for us to relate to God (and ultimately to others). Jesus died so that we can be open, authentic and intimate with God … so what are you waiting for … let’s get naked!

1. We all wear masks: what masks are you tempted to wear and why?

2. How do you feel when you hear that Jesus has made a way for you to approach God openly and honestly, without any kind of mask?

3. How would this coming week look different if you were more “naked” with God?

Courageous faith

Jesus did lots of things that amazed others, but only twice do we find Jesus “amazed’ … and both times he is amazed at the faith he sees in others. Today we look at these two stories where Jesus is amazed and ask ourselves: what does our level of faith look like? Is it rational and safe … or bold and courageous?

1.    What words or ideas first come to mind when you hear the word “faith”?

2.    On a scale from 1 (rational and safe) to 10 (bold and courageous) where would you rate your own faith right now?

3.    What would you have to do differently to increase this number?

We need new leadership

Series: Surviving and Thriving: 1 Peter, part 9

If the early church is going to survive the persecution it faces, it’s going to need good leadership and Peter finishes his letter focussing on the kind of Godly leadership the church needs. Whether you’re a church leader or not, in fact whether you’re in any kind of formal leadership or not, Peter gives us some fantastic principles that we can all apply in the workplace, in our families and in relationships.

BE THE CHANGE
