With the talent on the roster heading into the 2019-2020 season, ESPN.com college basketball writer John Gasaway expects the Tigers to make a massive jump.

Gasaway picked Memphis to win the American Athletic Conference this season, and he expects their talent to shine through once the year starts.

After going 22-14 last season and making it to the second round of the NIT, Gasaway said Memphis is a unique case. Despite not making the NCAA Tournament in years, Gasaway said he expects the Tigers to be one of the biggest stories in college basketball this season.

Memphis assistant coach Cody Toppert has been in Memphis for a little over four months now, and GoTigers247 spoke with him about some of the adjustments he has had to make.

Toppert came from the NBA, so he has had to adjust to recruiting and the college basketball landscape as a whole.

The Tigers assistant coach has lived in 15 different places in the past 10 years, so he said he is used to moving around, but he added that he has been blown away by Memphis. From the food to the basketball, Toppert said the Bluff City has exceeded his expectations.

With the first exhibition game less than a week away, Toppert also talks about the makeup of Memphis' roster and how they can succeed on the defensive end of the floor.

Memphis cornerback John Broussard will be eligible for his first game on Saturday against Tulane. Broussard transferred from Auburn in the spring, and he was ruled ineligible for the first six games of the 2019-2020 season.

Although Broussard hasn't played much at the collegiate level, 247Sports college football recruiting analyst John Garcia watched Broussard play multiple times in high school. Garcia joined GoTigers247 to discuss what type of player Broussard is, the impact he can make for Memphis and what Tiger fans can expect from him as a whole.

With Broussard's eligibility beginning on Saturday, it will be very interesting to see how much Memphis defensive coordinator Adam Fuller chooses to use him. The Tigers have multiple corners already – T.J. Carter, Chris Claybrooks, Jacobi Francis and Joey Bryant – but Broussard still has a chance to make an impact.

The Tigers secondary struggled against Louisiana Monroe and Temple, so Broussard could be the missing piece as far as the corners go.

Memphis held their first ever pro day on Monday, and former NBA agent and current owner of Babcock Hoops, Matt Babcock, was at the Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center for the pro day.Although he was already familiar with James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa, Babcock said he was impressed with their development already. Babcock praised Wiseman's added muscle, and he also spoke highly of the motor and physique of Achiuwa.Other than Wiseman and Achiuwa, Babcock said he was very impressed with Boogie Ellis and Damion Baugh. Babcock said he didn't have either in his latest mock draft, but he added that they could both certainly be in the next one.Babcock said he was "blown away" by Baugh's motor and size, and he also praised the ball-handling skills and scoring ability of Ellis.After watching the Tigers pro day on Monday, Babcock said Memphis has the potential to be a Final Four team with their immense talent.
