This lyrical debut novel celebrates the joys and tears of love lost and found and of a life renewed - in a most unexpected place...
At 34, Brian Duncan has it all. A trendy Manhattan life, a high-powered PR job, and a gorgeous fiancée with an exciting future of her own. Then, in a single moment of deception, Brian's world crumbles. Bitterly betrayed, he decides to toss away all he has worked for. Irresistibly drawn to the road, he leaves the city's busy streets behind.
On a hillside along New York's Hudson River Valley, Brian is transfixed by the beauty of an enormous windmill. Running toward it is a lovely little girl and her alluring mother, Annie Sullivan, who owns the windmill. The two strike a chord in Brian's heart, and soon he discovers the small-town charms of Linden Corners - and of Annie, whose elusive quality matches his own questions about life. And as their relationship deepens into passion, through the force of nature and the hand of fate, Brian will learn that love comes in unexpected ways.

Touching, tasteful, well-written.
I am honestly stunned that this is from a first-time author. It is very well-written and while - yes, a bit cliche' in a handful of places - so was the famous "Love Story" which is what this reminds me a lot of. I came to like and empathize with the main characters and enjoyed the transition of our lead man, Brian Duncan, from NYC corporate exec to soul-searching wanderer landing in quaint Linden Corners. And - again - some of the characters are a bit predictable, especially Chuck Akroyd, and some of the scenarios, such as the gals who run the Five-O, are a bit Norman Rockwell 'ish in their portrayal. But so what?! It's an easy read, intelligently written, and a love story you can believe in. What I really appreciate is that the author was able to portray the deep, sensual love of Brian and Annie without getting graphic. Very tasteful and very appropriate to the overall story. And the ending hit me to my core. Even as a GUY (yep), I found myself with some serious tears in my eyes.
Now THAT..... that makes for one heckuva read!
Four Stars
Nice easy read. I don't like series so will not read any more.
I thought the book was very good and well written
I thought the book was very good and well written. We had it for our book club which will be held the middle of April. I am anxious to hear how the other girls felt about the book. Had talked with one member and she did not find the book that good. Ma
Heartwarming story
I loved the way the author, Joseph Pittman, presented the story. I also read, The Christmas Hope, The Christmas Wish, The Memory Tree. All were wonderful and I am basically not a reader. I usually fall asleep by the third or fourth page. These books kept me awake.
Tilting at Windmills
I thought this book was very good. It really hit a spot with the working people who are usually too busy with life to smell the roses (so to speak). I really empathized with the character and what was changing in his life. Gives you something to think about.....is your life the way you want it to be?
