Princess Anne has sustained minor injuries and a concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate on Sunday, local time, according to Buckingham Palace.
The Princess Royal, 73, "remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation," a statement said.
The palace says she is expected to make a full and swift recovery.
"The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery," the statement added.
The cause of her injury is unconfirmed, but it is believed to be consistent with potential impact from a horse's head or legs, according to the BBC.

Anne will remain in Southmead Hospital unless or until her medical team advises otherwise.
The statement said that on doctors' advice, Princess Anne's engagements for the week ahead will be postponed.
She had been expected to attend the state banquet for the Japanese state visit and a visit to Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada.
"Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result," the statement said.
