Dr. Bernard Beitman is the Founding Director of The Coincidence Project which encourages people to tell each other their coincidence stories. He is former chair of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia and has a private practice in Charlottesville, Virginia. His education includes Swarthmore College, Yale Medical School, and psychiatric residency at Stanford.

His manual Learning Psychotherapy received two national awards for its unique interactive training program for psychiatric residents. He is internationally known for research in panic disorder and chest pain and has edited several books about how to integrate pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.

Simon Holland, known to over a hundred thousand fans online as the indomitable "Professor Simon" is the creator of a highly popular series of educational and entertaining videos on YouTube. What his fans may be less aware of is his decades long career in broadcast television production and editing, which includes editing for the BBC, Nat Geo, Discovery, Smithsonian TV, Ch4 and Ch5.

In the course of his career, Simon Holland has also produced films for the University of Hawaii NASA-funded program, "finding earth killer asteroids", as well as a French recorded history project.

Dr. Etzel Cardeña discusses a landmark peer-review study of psychic abilities published in prestigious APA journal that offers validation for PSI phenomena and offers insights into the nature of human consciousness.

Dr. Etzel Cardeña is the head of CERCAP, the Center for Research on Consciousness and Anomalous Psychology at Lund University in Sweden.

Dr. Cardeña is a Professor at Lund University, and holds the Thorsen Chair in psychology including parapsychology and hypnosis. He teaches courses on Altered States of Consciousness and Parapsychology, and Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, and conducts and supervises research on his areas of interest.

He's a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS), among other organizations. He is the author of close to 400 publications, and his research, theoretical, and pedagogical contributions have received awards from 4 different professional organizations and The University of Texas. Most recently, he received the 2021 Outstanding Career Award from the Parapsychological Association for his work.

John Townley discusses seriality, synchronicity and the hidden structures of information that lead to strange coincidences. Einstein studied this model closely, and Carl Jung drew upon it for his model of synchronicity.

Seriality was developed by Austrian biologist Dr. Paul Kammerer, who had the hobby of collecting coincidence stories. He published a collection of these coincidence stories in a book entitled “Gesetz der Serie”, or “The Law of the Series”, 1919, and his model of seriality views coincidences as visible peaks of larger moving entities of organized information.

Kammerer called these events “constellations of bodies and forces”, and modeled them as displaying affinity and attraction under natural law. He developed basic principles of how it might work, drawing on the physics of his time, including an “imitation hypothesis”, an “attraction hypothesis” and the principle of “persistence”, an extension of inertia that applied to systems and information as well as physical bodies. His description of seriality nearly 100 years ago is similar to what has more recently developed in chaos, complexity, and catastrophe theories.

John Townley is a writer, historian, editor, author, photojournalist, recording artist, producer, and publicist. His books and articles range from scholarly papers for the halls of academia to unabashed tabloid feature writing. In the editorial/publishing chair, he has headed daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly magazines both on staff and freelance.

John has produced recordings for labels as wide-ranging as Columbia Records and the National Geographic Society, designed and built the first 12-track recording studios in New York and San Francisco, and is the founding president of The Confederate Naval Historical Society.

He's also the former program developer at The Mariners' Museum in Newport News and New York's South Street Seaport Museum, and his papers have been published by the Society for Historical Archaeology, Mystic Seaport Museum, and the U.S. Naval Academy.

He joins us today to discuss Seriality, something he has studied extensively and has been cited on for publications such as "Psychology Today".

Ph.D. candidate Steven Firth outlines a model for first contact with extraterrestrial intelligence and describes challenges in reasoning, communication and culture that could inadvertently lead to hostility. This presentation is based on his paper, “An Assay on Axioms of First Contact”.

Firth also describes distal (SETI) and proximal (UAP) scenarios for first contact, and how differences in distance, technological advancement, and other key factors could potentially affect situational outcomes.

He also describes the potential for a "Hobbesian Trap", and provides game-theory analysis on potential risks and benefits of a first strike by either side. In this presentation, a Hobbesian Trap can be compared to the US/USSR cold war in the 20th century, with the exception of different benefit/cost weightings in the game theory matrix describing first contact hostilities.

Steven has a Bachelors and Master’s in Philosophy from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, and for the last 6 years has been a PhD candidate in Philosophy through the University of Helsinki.

Steven’s work includes research into practical applications of the Picture Theory of Disability, experience teaching philosophy, logic, and research methodologies at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology as part of the CORE Education Program, and volunteer work as an awareness advocate for cancer screening and early detection.
