Challenges are something we all face at some point in life, but it's how we respond that defines us. We’ve all encountered moments of self-doubt, times when the challenges before us seemed insurmountable, especially when stepping into roles or opportunities that feel beyond our reach. When faced with these obstacles, it’s easy to question whether we have what it takes to succeed. This doubt can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to remember that these are just tests along our journey, not permanent barriers.
Thus, it is important to approach failure with a mindset geared toward learning and growth. Viewing challenges as opportunities rather than threats can significantly change our experience. By adopting a mindset of growth, seeking guidance from coaches, surrounding ourselves with a supportive community, and using affirmations to build confidence, we can navigate through difficulties with resilience and strength.
In this episode, I will share my experience of giving my first onstage performance at the Next Level Speakers Academy where I had the opportunity to speak in front of top speakers in the world. You'll hear how overcoming self-doubt and failing important tests have shaped my journey as a speaker and healthcare professional. Tune in to hear how these challenges became stepping stones on my path to growth and resilience.

Many of us are driven by the desire to excel in our careers, personal lives, and hobbies. While ambition can lead to great achievements, it can also become overwhelming. Indeed, the more we take on, the harder it becomes to maintain balance. We might start to feel like we’re constantly running on empty, struggling to keep up with all our commitments. However, there is a danger in trying to do everything and be everything to everyone.
When we stretch ourselves too thin, we jeopardize our own well-being. In our pursuit of meeting every demand, the quality of our work and relationships can suffer, despite our best intentions. Thus, the desire to be successful in every area of life is noble, but it's crucial to recognize that our capacity is limited. Therefore, it's important to set realistic boundaries and prioritize what truly matters. By acknowledging our limits, we can focus our efforts on the areas that align with our core values and long-term goals. Remember, finding a balance between ambition and self-care isn’t about giving up on our dreams but about ensuring we pursue them in a healthy and sustainable way.
In this episode, I will share the challenges I've faced in balancing my personal and professional life, and how these have led me to rethink my approach to both work and self-care. I’ll share the steps I’m taking to manage my time better and focus on what truly matters to me. I’m excited about the future of the podcast and the new directions we’re taking. I hope you’ll continue to join me as we explore new topics, dive deeper into meaningful conversations, and grow together.

Conflict is not a hurdle to be overcome, but a pattern to be understood; it is through the examination of these patterns that we unlock the truly creative potential of our challenges. We see conflict in various facets of our lives, from personal relationships to professional environments. In these spaces, conflict often arises from differences in values, goals, or communication styles. Yet it is precisely these differences that offer fertile ground for growth and innovation.
Many conflicts we encounter often intensify because we tend to concentrate on defending our own stance instead of trying to understand the perspective of the other person. Hence, our defensive approach can create a cycle of misunderstanding and frustration, where both parties feel unheard and undervalued. Therefore, we must adopt a mindset that prioritizes understanding over winning. Remember, resolving conflict is not about proving who is right or wrong but about finding a way forward that respects the needs and perspectives of everyone involved. By cultivating a mindset that seeks to understand and learn from conflict, we can transform it into a powerful catalyst for personal and collective growth.
Jennifer Jones-Patulli is a conflict management and leadership development consultant with a passion for transforming conflict into a productive force. In 2019, Jennifer founded Productive Conflict LLC, where she combines complexity thinking, conflict resolution, and power dynamics to help clients foster better collaboration, increased productivity, and stronger organizational relationships. Her innovative approach emphasizes the need for adaptive, interdisciplinary strategies to tackle complex challenges and achieve lasting results.
In this episode with Jennifer Jones-Patulli, we will discover how to turn conflicts into chances for growth and creativity. Jennifer explains how viewing conflict positively can reveal key patterns and improve relationships. She highlights the role of leaders in using conflict to strengthen their teams and encourage open communication. Tune in to learn practical tips for handling conflicts constructively and making them work for you.

The pursuit of excellence can sometimes take a toll on our mental well-being. Many of us strive for high levels of performance, whether in our careers, sports, or personal lives. We often hear about how to improve skills, manage time, and achieve our goals. But what about the mental side of high performance? This is where performance psychiatry comes into play. By understanding and addressing the psychological aspects of high performance, it helps us not only achieve our goals but also maintain a sense of well-being and balance in our lives. Remember, achieving excellence is not just about pushing ourselves harder but also about ensuring that our mental health supports and sustains our efforts.

Each time we face a fear, we learn more about our strengths and weaknesses, refining our skills and gaining confidence in our abilities. Fear is a natural reaction when we face something unfamiliar or challenging. From the anxiety of speaking in front of a crowd, the nerves before a big exam, or the discomfort of stepping out of our comfort zones, fear can feel like a heavy burden. When we find ourselves in situations that seem overwhelming or beyond our control, it can be tempting to doubt our abilities and consider giving up.
However, it’s often in these scary moments that we experience the greatest growth. When we push through our fears and face these challenges head-on, we uncover our true capabilities and strengths. Moreover, finding support from others can make a big difference. Surrounding ourselves with people who believe in us and offer encouragement helps us stay motivated. Their support can provide a boost when we are feeling low and remind us of our potential when we start to doubt ourselves. Ultimately, overcoming fear requires a combination of self-belief, perseverance, and a strong support network. As we navigate through life’s challenges, we develop a deeper understanding of our own strengths and weaknesses.
Dr. Manju Dawkins is a caring doctor and mother who knows how scary needles can be. Her journey started when she saw the fear in her daughter's eyes during her first shots. As a dermatologist, she used numbing creams to ease the pain, but she knew it wasn’t enough. She saw that untreated pain was a common problem in medical care for both kids and adults. To find a better solution, Dr. Dawkins started Thimble. Thimble is changing how needle procedures are done, aiming to remove the pain and fear from shots and blood draws. Their solutions make these experiences more comfortable for everyone, helping patients and their care teams, and improving overall public health. Dr. Dawkins is dedicated to making sure no one has to endure needle pain and fear. Her work at Thimble is helping millions of people have a better, less painful healthcare experience.
In this episode with Dr. Manju Dawkins, we will learn about her inspiring journey of perseverance, hard work, and believing in oneself despite the challenges and doubts from others. Throughout the episode, Dr. Dawkins discusses the value of embracing challenges, learning from failures, and the need to quiet external noise to listen to one's inner voice. She also touches on the significance of taking breaks and allowing time for recovery, both physically and mentally, to maintain long-term health and well-being. Dr. Dawkins' journey is a testament to the fact that with the right mindset, support system, and determination, one can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
“A lot of people have opinions about you but they don't know you and what's inside of you. So take the time to quiet your noisy mind to know what you're capable of, what you're meant to do and what you deserve.”– Dr. Manju Dawkins

In a world where we're expected to mask our struggles behind a white coat or a suit, finding the courage to be an open book is truly commendable. We all have struggles and setbacks in different forms. Some of us face challenges in our careers, others deal with personal issues, and many of us encounter both at the same time. Whether it’s grappling with addiction, experiencing job loss, or dealing with health crises, the journey through these trials can be incredibly tough.
Many of us compartmentalize our pain until it overwhelms us, but acknowledging our challenges is the first step towards healing. When we begin to openly recognize and talk about our difficulties, we take a significant step toward recovery. Embracing this openness allows us to seek the support we need from mentors, coaches, and loved ones. By sharing our experiences and vulnerabilities, we break down the walls of isolation and build connections with others who may have faced similar struggles and provide them with grace we have received.Remember, it’s through understanding our struggles and reaching out for support that we transform our challenges into strengths.

Are you aware of your sickle cell status? Many people aren’t, yet understanding this crucial aspect of your health could make a life-saving difference. Sickle cell disease is a genetic condition that affects hemoglobin, the molecule in red blood cells responsible for transporting oxygen. It is a serious, lifelong illness that can cause pain, anemia, infections, and other health problems.
However, early detection and knowledge of your sickle cell status can significantly impact your health outcomes. People with sickle cell disease who are aware of their condition can take proactive steps to manage their health. Having this awareness would enable us to make informed decisions about family planning and seek specialized medical care when needed. By understanding our sickle cell status, we empower ourselves to navigate potential health challenges with greater resilience and informed support from healthcare professionals and community resources. As National Sickle Cell Day approaches, let's advocate for awareness, education, and support systems that empower individuals affected by sickle cell disease to live healthier and more fulfilled lives.
