One of the candidates for the two Constitutional Court vacancies, judge David Unterhalter, on Tuesday admitted that he made a mistake when he decided on a matter that came before the Supreme Court of Appeal last year and the Constitutional Court this year.

The last candidate to be interviewed for a vacancy in the Constitutional Court, judge Owen Rogers, said on Tuesday he thinks the court of 11 justices is too small and too important to allow anything along the lines of a quota to determine who is part of it.

Rogers, who is a judge in the Western Cape High Court, and four other candidates were interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for two vacancies in the apex court.

The Eastern Cape department of education was ordered by the Makhanda high court to ensure all public schools in the province have textbooks by the end of last month.

Department spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima told TimesLIVE that by the end of Tuesday all schools would have textbooks.
