  • Mobile Payment is Ubiquitous in China, and What is Coming Next?

    Mobile payment is ubiquitous in China and it is enabled through a different way than in the western world. According to eMarketer, in addition to the pervasive usage at ecommerce through online mobile payment, proximity mobile payment users in China is 577.4 million (by far the largest in the world), with a penetration rate of 81.1% of smartphone users. China is steadily marching toward a cashless society, enabled by Alibaba’s Alipay and Tencent’s WeChat Pay. Those two leading payment systems have introduced QR code-backed payments into the daily habits of consumers, from purchasing in supermarkets or convenient stores to buying a subway ticket. How did this happen in China? And what is coming next? Please join me to the dialogue with Karl Weaver, a wireless and mobile device ecosystem specialist in the Smart Card sector of the wireless industry, and China/Asia-Pacific Business Development Director for ICO and Mobile Devices Security firm Rivetz Corp.

    Karl J. Weaver is a wireless and mobile device ecosystem specialist in the Smart Card sector of the wireless industry. He is China/Asia-Pacific Business Development Director for Rivetz Corp, an ICO andMobile Devices Security firm, to provide embedded mobile device security of Android OS, Blockchain-designed Smartphones using Rivetz developer tools for the TEE and Rivetz new Dual Roots of Trust Security for protection and management of crypto wallet private keys. Before that, Karl worked as OEM Biz Dev Director at ARM /Simulity Labs, and spent 5 years working in China for Gemalto (and Trustonic) as Rainmaker for design in of embedded Mobile NFC Payments & TEE security technologies to the OEMSmartphone/Tablet PC ecosystem. Karl is a Globally trained, bilingual Mandarin Chinese speaking senior mobility executive with vast experience selling wireless & mobile device technologies from both sides of the Pacific Rim to the global OEM/ODM handset/tablet PC ecosystem supply chain.

    很巧合的是,在和Christine进行这次对话的当天中午,这个她提到的businesswoman正好那天过来看Christine和她先生Omar,我也就跟着一起去他们原来拥有的那家饭店午餐,从这个曾经在那里工作多年的员工听到她自己在这个团队成长的过程。正如 Christine讲到的那样,这个从十几岁就利于业余时间到他们餐馆打工的小女孩,在这里成为掌管整个餐馆的总经理,把生意做得红红火火,直到Christine他们把餐馆卖掉。我想Christine说的用人不疑,对人尊重,给人充分学习和发展的空间,就是她团队员工能够长期一起共事一起成长的宝典吧。

    这一期节目是特别为我们曾经在微软工作过的校友们制作的。我是Michelle Zou邹英毅,曾经在微软的总部和中国前后工作了9年,之后这几年我在做中美之间的跨境咨询和培训业务。微软校友中国总会将于2019年12月14日在北京成立,为此我特意邀请了前微软全球副总裁、微软大中华区总裁、亚洲总裁Michael Rawding先生和我一起聊聊当时我们是怎样有了这样一个想法,就是把在微软总部西雅图地区的Microsoft Alumni Network带到中国去,为我们中国的校友们提供一个平台,让大家在离开微软后能够保持联系,互相了解,互相帮助。在我们萌生了这个想法之后,Michael又邀请到张亚勤和Tim Chen陈永正一同担任微软校友中国总会的第一届联。亚勤曾在微软工作了16年,历任全球资深副总裁兼微软亚太研发集团主席、微软亚洲研究院院长兼首席科学家、微软中国董事长和微软移动全球副总裁,Tim 曾在2003-2007年任微软全球副总裁和微软大中华区首席执行官。在组建第一届联团的同时,Michael 还获得了微软公司执行副总裁Harry Shum沈向洋的热情支持。



    经过十个月的筹划,在微软总部及中国公司现任领导们的大力支持下、在筹备组及校友志愿者们的共同努力下,微软校友会终于在中国正式成立,并将由当地校友们运营、为大家提供服务。在我介绍了前面这些重要领军人物之后,我和Michael给大家聊聊这背后的故事以及12月14号的活动将是怎样的。

    前段时间我为大家从不同的角度介绍了美国房地产行业,通过访谈居住在西雅图地区颇有名气的行业专家为大家讲述他们走过的道路,其中有建筑设计师和房地产投资顾问及中介。这一次我要为大家带来房地产开发商,他们负责买地、在上面盖商业或者民用建筑,然后卖掉或者经营这些地产。今天我们的嘉宾是ChristineLee,她和先生Omar  Lee是我们西雅图当地华人皆知的长城购物中心的创办人,他们最新建成的一个酒店HotelIndigo Seattle Everette Waterfront就是前几期节目嘉宾张铭院士帮助设计的。这些第一代华人移民在美国白手起家,靠着自己的智慧和努力,脚踏实地的从小慢慢做大,积累了丰厚的财富。

  • Modern China Craves for Creative Architects

    If you are visiting China for the first time, you will be amazed by its modern cities with stunning high-rise buildings scoring to the sky. Today’s China has a strong appetize for innovation and creativity, and that also reflects on how the government wants its cities look like. Real estate development in China is booming for the past 4 decades, and developers are not shy from recruiting world-renowned architects to turn rural areas into brand new contemporary cities. Mr. Ming Zhang, an award-winning designer and Founder of Seattle based company MZA Architecture, has worked on over 130 projects in more than 60 cities in China over the last 20 years. I invite him shares his experience in helping to create a new image for major cities throughout China and the U.S., and tips on how to win contracts and work with Chinese on those projects.

    美国建筑师学会院士张铭先生在80年代留美获得建筑学硕士学位之后,到现在已经有了将近30年的建筑设计经历,所设计的项目遍布美国、亚洲及中东地区。他在建筑创意设计上有着特殊的天分与想象力。凭借着这种天分及对当地文化、环境的尊重,对美的执着追求,对东西方文化的深刻理解,再加之对业主的高度重视以及超强的沟通能力,张铭成为了一位世界级的著名建筑师。

    Chinese investors have been riding the US commercial real estate(CRE) wave, the total investment in the US rising up rapidly from the ground in2011, peaked at $16.2B in 2016 then dropped over 55% in 2017 after China'sgovernment announced efforts to restrict outbound investments in foreign real estate,according to Cushman & Wakefield. Ms. Hui Tian, architect and Founder of a Seattle company Studio 19Architects, shares with us her observations of the changes in the CREinvestment trend related to China investment, and her experience on how to workwith Chinese real estate investors.
