Tips For Tomorrow

Anna and Victoria talk with Alicia McFarland, a coordinator for Early Childhood Programs at Ventura County Office of Education. With a plethora of experiences and resources, Alicia shares ideas for teaching young children during Distance Learning, while keeping a focus on developmentally appropriate practices like provocations and building wonder. Alicia also shares considerations about how we might serve families of young children during Distance Learning.

Anna and Victoria discuss what they learned from Alicia McFarland about supporting young children during Distance Learning, focusing on relationships and learning through play. Additionally, they take what they learned from Alicia and discuss how some of her great ideas apply to all ages and students. 

In this 6th episode, Anna and Victoria break down all that Regina Reed shared with them about supporting Students with Disabilities during Distance Learning.  In their “What am I Currently Reading” segment, Anna and Victoria talk about how to escape into a book to support emotions.

Regina shares insight into some of the challenges Special Education teachers face during Distance Learning and provides tips on how to prepare for next year.

Anna and Victoria meet with Paige Gonzales, an educator at Ocean View Junior High School in Oxnard, California. 

Paige teaches a Social Emotional Learning class to sixth, seventh, and eight grade students. 

Today she shares what she has learned and how teachers can meet their students’ social emotional needs during the distance learning environment and beyond.

Anna and Victoria interview Jeremy Resnick, a Curriculum and Instruction Director at the Ventura County Office of Education. 

Jeremy has dedicated much of his professional career to PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) and is meeting with Anna and Victoria to discuss how teachers might use PBIS in a Distance Learning model.
