Little Felix, it's time to explore your journey of love. To make this easier, I've written you 12 poems that will walk you through this laborious, yet exciting adventure. One day you'll hear this phrase "hurt people, hurt people," but you're going to feel like you could have coined it yourself. I promise you it gets worse before it gets better, but you will learn how to turn your pain into joy. I hate to say it, but we have to start with the worst first. This time it's not just about one man, it's about many. They're all different, but they're definitely all the same.
It finally happened! It's the first time you get caught up in a whirlwind romance but does it last forever? Follow along as I tell my younger self the story of his first encounter with love as a noun and a verb.
One moment can change your life. Follow along as I tell my younger self the story of that pivotal moment that changed the way I navigated sex, friendships, and love.
Welcome to a world where two Black men, one straight and one gay, are great friends. In the Black community, homophobia runs rampant and is typically rooted in the teachings of the church. We are faced with the arduous task of destroying this foundation in order to continue to strengthen our bonds as Black men. When we will stop allowing the church to hinder the trajectory of our community? Check out this discussion with my friend, Harrison Howard, who decided to choose love instead of following unsubstantiated teachings of hate towards gays.
Although the buzz around Dave Chappelle's special on Netflix, "The Closer", has started to diminish, this is a discussion that needs to continue. So many of us in the Black LGBTQIA+ community have weighed in on public platforms as well as amongst our social circles in regards to our thoughts and feelings on Dave's overall exclusion of the Black community's challenges in queer spaces. However, until Black cis-het men begin to hold each other accountable, there will be no progress.
To Felix, With Love is all about exploring how the lack of representation, knowledge and education around normalizing love throughout the black gay community during our younger years may impact the way we navigate sex, dating and relationships as adults. Imagine a world where romantic love between two Black men feels familiar to all and the trauma that has been inflicted on our community from the church to our families and other contributing factors to the breakdown of our foundation, such as patriarchy, no longer existed. On this first episode, I introduce you to my journey of self-love and how to define love. I also dive into the moment when I knew I was gay and how the internet helped me facilitate my first experiences with men at a young age.
Thank you so much for listening! I would love to hear your story. Also, as I mentioned in the episode, I crawled so you can walk! Maybe my experiences can help you in some way.
Ask me anything!
