Naaman was a proud and powerful man with a big problem. He needed physical healing, but he did not like the prescription. He thought he would be cured instantly, with the wave of a hand. Most of us remember trying to administer medicine to a sick child who did not like the taste or texture and resisted us, sometimes spilling the very substance that would bring relief. Naaman was like that, and although we hate to admit it, we are in his company! Like a loving parent, God persists in offering us the perfect prescription for whatever ails us. But often the path to wholeness is painful and perplexing, and we would rather resist it. Today, open your heart to learn more about the mystery and messiness of connecting with God. And if you look closely, you might just find yourself in Naaman's company somewhere in this story!

Today, as children of God, we have a most incredible privilege available to us. We have a continuous open door to communicate with the God of the universe. We can draw near to Almighty God at any moment and interact with Him through prayer. This morning we will continue our study on what the Bible teaches about prayer as we learn about five privileges God has granted us through prayer as followers of Jesus Christ.

When we pray we invite God’s presence, power, and authority into our lives and circumstances. Through prayer we bring the rule and abundant life of heaven to earth to meet various needs and problems. Prayer unlocks the provisions of heaven and brings them to earth. Let’s learn how to pray more effectively so God’s will can be done on earth just as it is in heaven.
