U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet fired on and disabled the Iranian-flagged oil tanker M/T Hasna in the Gulf of Oman after its crew ignored repeated warnings.
- The Strike: The fighter jet, launched from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, used its 20mm cannon to strike the tanker’s rudder, the underwater mechanism used for steering.
- The Goal: The mission was specifically intended to disable the vessel's ability to maneuver rather than sink it, ensuring it could no longer proceed toward an Iranian port.
- Vessel Status: The M/T Hasna was unladen (carrying no oil) at the time of the engagement. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the ship is "no longer transiting to Iran".
