I've got a few thoughts to share this week on how a 9 month trip to Mars would compare to our current pandemic lockdown situation. There are some similarities and alot of differences. But I've seen a lot of my fellow space peeps talking about the comparison, so let's think it out! What would you rather do - A 9 month trip to Mars or a never-ending date for coronavirus lockdown?

Welcome to our segment called 'People of Science' where we breakdown the common misconception of what someone in 'science' is like. This time we're going into science-fiction, which plays a MAJOR role in telling the story of science to the masses. It's also a huge factor in why so many people get into science. I know it was for me... This week it was an honor to have Mick from theSceneSnobs.com on the show to discuss his passion for space and science fiction. We talked about his origins on what got him into podcasting, and of course we dove DEEP into sci-fi classics like Star Trek, Star Wars, and our thoughts on the new 'Picard' series that just wrapped up Season 1. FYI there are a lot of spoilers in the second half of this episode, but it was a great talk and I hope you enjoy! In life we make connections with people (more so in a life without pandemic) and I am very happy that I met Mary the Mommy on the NASAsocial trip for CRS-19. Which also lead to me meeting and talking to Mick. While quarantine and coronavirus lockdown is upon us - make the most of it! We're taking our own advice/medicine here on the podcast. And I'm very glad I did.

Look forward to more of these while (at the moment) we will be in quarantine for the entirety of April. It may not be face to face, but its human connection.

This week Today In Space is on-the-road in San Diego, California. Yes, that means we dared to travel with the insanity of the COVID-19 mania. I share my thoughts and observations traveling from Boston to San Diego and how this has affected things. And of course, my thoughts on how a scientific mindset can help reduce anxiety and hysteria given the situation. It's not the end of the world, but things are weird for sure. To start of March of 2020, we are going to discuss the Balance. The balance of life as a human being, science, and making human life interplanetary. In all three of these, failure plays a major role. When you view failure through the right lens, things can change for you. In this episode, we discuss how I had a reminder of how failure can be viewed to make you better, if you can only separate yourself from the emotion of it. Our latest attempt at 3D printing the Mandalorian Helmet didn't have the results we wanted, but it reminded me failure is part of the journey. It's also something SpaceX has figured out as a way to develop space technology more rapidly than ever before, like the Starship and Falcon 9.

With the Space Force being created as the 6th branch of the US military, there's been a lot of jokes (I've laughed at a few). But the Space Force could very easily become a much larger part in humanities day to day.

There's a lot covered on this podcast - from the latest bill proposed for NASA's long term goals, to changing my life around my food allergies...it's all about balance. I may have found a balance to living a happy life with those allergies, but NASA has not found a balance to surviving it's relationship with politics.
