  • Episode 10: Representation Power, Activate!

In the 10th episode of Toku Ladies, we talk about *drum roll* representation and why it matters. Yes, again. Because it's important, and we miraculously keep finding new things to say about it. Branching out into other shows and fandoms besides Toku, we talk about the ways in which media has been rapidly changing lately, and how we in fandom have contributed to, effected, and benefited from those changes.

Also, we talk about butts a lot in this episode. And there's a LOT of loud giggling, sorry not sorry.

  • Episode 9: Christmas Blues - What Happened to Diversity?

Episode 9, the final episode of 2014 for the Toku Ladies, talks about the Toku holiday specials, their overbearing focus on Christmas and, as always, why diversity matters.

The Toku Ladies end 2014 on a classy note as always, and will be back in 2015 with more episodes about Toku, Women, Feminism, and Fandom. Thanks for supporting us this year, we hope you have a safe and happy rest of 2014!

  • Episode 8: Token Toku Girls

What is a "Token" character? And what does it mean when Power Rangers and other Toku shows use "The Girl" as a token trait? In this episode of Toku Ladies, we discuss tokenism as a concept, from token female characters to token love interests. Since Dino Charge will be featuring Saban's first try at a Token Girl, we engage in a lengthy discussion about our hopes and dreams for Camille Hyde.

We also have a long rant about all things newsworthy in the beginning, including our opinions on The Episode of ToQger That Shall Be Forgotten, and the Megaforce Series Finale.

  • Episode 7: All Aboard The Hype Train

This episode of Toku Ladies spends a good deal of time rehashing current Toku events in Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Power Rangers. Then we take a dive into the Listener Mail Bag and talk about the comments and criticisms we've received, and answer some really wonderful questions we've been asked.

  • The Interview Series: Jackie Marchand

For the Toku Ladies very first interview, we were privileged to talk to Jackie Marchand, one of the longest running writers and producers on Power Rangers. Listen to Jackie talk about her goals of writing equality between the genders on Power Rangers, what it was like to work with Saban and Disney, her favorite seasons, rangers, and villains, and her own headcanons about feminism and your favorite female rangers.

A giant Thank You to Jackie for sitting down with us and letting us pick her brain, women to woman, and we wish her all the luck with Princess Dirtbag and her other projects that we hope to see soon.

  • Episode 6: Toku Ladies Take Power Morphicon

This Morphicon recap episode takes a look at the great time had by TheSecondBatgirl and PockySquirrel as they attended Morphicon 4 in Pasadena. From interviewing Bandai Toy reps and celebrating Tricera-gate victory, to critiquing the problems of the con, to the long awaited Hector David Jr. and His Pizza story, we cover it all and have a great time doing it.

(There may be some audio leveling problems with this file. We've done everything we can do fix it to no avail, so we apologize for the inconvenience.)

  • Episode 5: It's a Boy's Toy? Gendered Marketing and Toku

  • Episode 4: Queer Coding, Queer Baiting, and Trope Subversions

The 4th installment of Toku Ladies touches upon the queer coding in American and Japanese markets, its purpose, and our favorite queer coded ladies throughout Toku.

If there's something you think we missed, tweet us @TokuLadies_Pod!

Disclaimer: The Toku Ladies pretty much headcanon all your faves as queer. This, of course, is just the opinion of the Toku Ladies, and this episode examines the subtext that leads us to those assumptions.

  • Episode 3: Relationships! The Good, The Bad, and The Trippy

In the third epidode of Toku Ladies, we talk about the ways Toku portray relationships, the good one, the bad ones, and even the sometimes trippy ones.

With specific focus on toxic masculinity and abuse apologist narratives, we try to explain why many of the relationships are unhealthy. Don't worry- we also talk about the few who got it right!

Put on your shipping goggles, listeners!

  • Episode 2: The Nostalgia Factor

In the second episode of the Toku Ladies Podcast, we discuss the movie, why the idea of a true fan is bullshit, mock Jason David Frank, and start a campaign for Corbin Bleu to be in the movie.

Oh, and we talk about what we want for a Power Rangers movie, what we hope doesn't happen, and talk about how previous reboots have gone. We keep the ranting about Michael Bay to a minimum. Mostly.
