  • Temperature Check: ...And We're In Quarantine w/ Max Kevin
    Hello,
Had a convo with long-time friend Max Kevin. It has been awhile since the last one with the comedian so there are a lot of updates on what he's been up to. Since that time he has left and returned to Japan. We talk about doing stand-up during the pandemic, what life was like in America v.s. Japan, and why you shouldn't trust the stock market. There's some jokes and jewels so down inside of the content, pls
    Thanks!

  • MLS 143: "We Can Freak It" featuring Foniks and DJ DNZ
Finally got the homies Foniks and DNZ back on the podcast.
Listeners will recognize DNZ from the Breakdown episode were we celebrated the Breakdown event. One of the longest running hip-hop events in Tokyo. DNZ is a turntablist Dj and twitch streamer. Since then he's been streaming deejay sets and preparing for Tokyo to open back up for events.
The last time Foniks was on was during our Jansport J episode. Foniks is an illustrator, musician and producer. He's been branching out and making more hip-hop centric beats and collaborating with some of Tokyo local emcees.
Today we mostly caught up and talked about anything that came to mind as we haven't been in the same room for well over a year.
Tune to the pod. Video coming soon.

  • Temperature Check: The World's Gonna Be Different After This w/ Mark de Clive-Lowe
    Hello,
True believers and Tanaka's, back with another forehead spot. Got the good buddy and illustrious artist Mark de Clive-Lowe for this convo. It has been a minute since the last time we spoke in Japan. Mark's been in L.A. since all the madness started and has been able to make the best of it. With roots in Japan, New Zealand as well as the US & UK, Mark was able to give a unique perspective on this pandemic and opinions on how the different countries have handled it and what the situations are like there. We talk about transitioning from being mainly a touring artist and the changes he's made; there's also some future-talk on plans post, the evolution of artistry, NFT's, all that.
Make sure to check out Mark's Patreon where he's released enough original songs for an entire album. Much appreciation to the mighty MdCL.
Make sure to get all that content in your ear

Despite largely performing rock and indie rock music, his newest project Island Hopping is a call back to his Puerto Rican roots.

  • MLS 141: "Regardless of Trend" featuring Akio James with Aaron Choulai
This one dropped late because a variety of reasons but boom! great and interesting stuff!
Akio James is a percussionist, student, dj and experimental music artist. Over the last several months he's been organizing improv sessions with Japanese musicians using a 360° camera and an ambisonic microphone to share on YouTube. In between performing, he's also working towards his master's degree in computer science/ engineering with a thesis focused on creating an augmented reality polyrhythmic metronome. Really interesting stuff. We also talk about what is experimental music.
We get into all that along side friend of the show- guest co-host, Aaron Choulai. Listeners will recognize Aaron from several episodes. Aaron is a pianist, producer/beatmaker, and head of Namboku Records. He introduced me to James a few months back.
The musical bed is brought to you by Subnet and Namboku Records. Here we preview Subnets new project releasing next month called Out the Tape Vol.1.

  • Temperature Check: America Is Trash, And It's Been Trash w/ Daisha Hunter
    Hello,
Called good friend of the pod Daisha Hunter to get caught up. She was planning to be in Japan for all of 2020 (weren't we all), but then 2020 happened. During the convo she shares what she's been up to the past year her feelings about the whole situation including being zen enough to ride it out inside until 2022 when everything is hopefully back to normal. Should we move to Mexico? Will there be an Olympics? Are we going to Magic City? All of the answers are inside!
Peace to everyone around the world! See you later, if not soon then definitely in 2022!!
