I wrote this song in between last March of this year to last night, September 26, 2016.

It is about a situation I was watching unfold in a very upsetting moment in two people's lives. I wrote it the night I witnessed it, and under the circumstances, felt it was too real to finish or even work on.

I recently stumbled upon it while perusing my music files and just fell in love with the melody and arrangement all over again, and decided to go ahead and finish the lyrics and see what happens.

This is what happened.

It remains a true country song, both loving and miserable.

One of those 'grab a beer and cry in it' type of songs.

I'm glad to say that the people that inspired the song are doing much better than the song indicates - in fact, the song's ending is fictitious.

Still, a sad country song is a sad country song - and you're gonna need a beer to cry into if you're planning on listening to this one.

Oh, side note: The poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost is one of my favorite poems by him. I first heard of it when we, as 7th graders, were forced to read the book called 'The Outsiders' by SE Hinton. In it, she has the main character, Ponyboy, recite it to his fellow Greaser, Johnnyboy, as they are on the lamb for the murder of a popular, but evil Soc. Yeah ... great stuff.

But, the poem ... he expresses how just as there is the first morning dew, when the sun comes up, it is golden ... but as the day goes on, it leaves just as all the firsts of the day eventually do, reminding us that nothing that pure, or golden can stay ... it's beautiful.

In my song - the gold represents the wedding band. I think you get the picture from there ...

A song about a place we go to every April to celebrate special days.

Every April we as a family gather to this wonderful and scenic countryside where my parents' friend, Manny, has built an old western town on his property. His family travels from Utah, my parents from Paso Robles, my ex and my son from Bakersfield and me and my boy from LA, (and other family from around SLO county).

The first time I went there I was blown away by the town he built and had a great time staying there. When I was preparing to go the next year, I suddenly felt this urge to write a song about this place and came up with this bizarre story involving traveling back in time and being a part of the old west history.

In the story telling style of one of my dad's favorite singers, Marty Robbins, and with a chant from the band XIT in a song called "The Anthem of the Native American" written by Tom Bee, I came up with this song. I hope you enjoy the tune, and the story.

When Thomas was thirteen years old, inspired by singer-songwriters like Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and various country artists he had heard growing up from the albums his parents would play, he sat down one day and put these words together humming out a melody as he went along.

After getting to the phrasing he liked, and the timing he tapped out, he started singing the lyrics out loud, coming up with a melody that came from the music he heard in his mind.

When he met David Hesse three years later, he sang the song(as he heard it in his mind) to David Hesse, who played the sounds he heard from him onto his piano, stating to Thomas what chords he was playing for him.

This brought the song to life and he loved the feeling of writing a good song everyone could hear.

Diamond Club is a group formed by lead singer Thomas G Robinson in 1986 when his boss at Diamond Video, Paul Bloch, decided to manage and promote the group after hearing a demo recording of this song (Tender Eyes) on a four song demo they put together.

They recorded the songs in their high school music room when Mr. Burkle would let them in after hours.

The song was on the demo simply called "Tom and Dave" which they had produced and recorded on their own.

Paul, so taken by the demo, he purchased the band's instruments for them and set them up to record in the studio, blocking out a week's time. It was awesome! Years later, he would take them all back after nothing major happened for the group and he needed the money.

Having written this song in the early 1990's, I never imagined that it'd be one of the songs that I wanted to record as a solo artist. My brother Marty Elisarraras recorded it in Nashville and I was so thrilled with that. I never recorded it myself, until this year."

Unbeknownst to Marty, I actually wrote this song as a response to his and his wife, Sheila Annette Elisarraras' relationship. They've been together since they were 14 and 15 years old! There's been ups and downs, but, they've always stuck through it.

When they were having a tough time this year, I decided to record this and dedicate it to them.

Backstory: I'm a HUGE James Taylor fan and have always loved his song "Carolina in My Mind". At the end of that song he adlibs, "I'm gone, say nice things about me, I'm gone, you'll have to carry on without me". I loved the idea of being "lost" in something, a hometown, a state, a memory ... and decided I wanted to write about being lost in someone. So, with Marty, Sheila and James in mind - this is the FINAL recording of the song, "I'm Gone (I'm Not Here, Baby).

I'm working on a video for this song with Marty & Sheila being prominently featured in it!
