Mary Harrington has proposed that protests like Patriot Platform represent the British returning to ethnic tribalism, rather than nationalism. Nationalism requires the nation-state to represent its people. But demographic and cultural fragmentation, driven by immigration, has separated the state from the nation it was named after. When the people no longer consider the state to be a legitimate authority, vigilantism is inevitable.

This is also a function of social media, with superficial differences between ethnic groups, abundant video evidence of group differences, amplified by the algorithms of image-based platforms. The smartphone has discredited the Blank Slate. 

However, Mary’s Singapore-style solutions — forcing incompatible imported “communities” to play nice with the natives — will not solve this problem. If legal migration continues, demographic insecurities will not subside. Until homogeneity is restored, the tribalising will continue.

The state knows this. Hence their attempts to scapegoat and contain the “far right”. These protests could be crushed like the Peasants’ Revolt: its leaders persecuted, with a concession made to the mob by stopping the boats. 

Demographic change must be arrested and reversed. That can only be done with the departure of millions of recent arrivals. The longer that is forestalled, the more likely undesirable ethnic conflict and Balkanisation become.

A feminist journalist wrote an article accusing me of "inherent misogyny" and "ethnic and Christian nationalism" because I encourage men to reclaim their identity and "recommend that young men seek out a simple life with a simple wife".

But they aren't offering young men a positive vision. If I can help them build strength, courage, and skills, and become better sons, fathers, and brothers, my conscience is clear. The name-calling is boring, and I don't care. If I had their approval, then my parents, wife, and daughters would rightly be ashamed of me.

Every day, atrocities in the headlines, or walking through the streets and shopping malls of our childhood, remind us that the world we grew up in is gone. 

Politics is no longer a good-faith exchange in the marketplace of ideas about how to best spend tax revenue and provide healthcare. It is existential. Leftists will celebrate and mock the deaths of their opponents. Our governments are infested with people who find the murder of Charlie Kirk and the 9/11 attacks funny.

Recognise that they take these things seriously and treat them as wins. Restoring the country of your childhood will mean using power to defeat them.

Britons are sick of immigration. 57 per cent of voters support immediate detention for illegals, according to YouGov. Just 3 per cent view the men crossing the Channel in small boats positively. 67 per cent think asylum grants should be temporary, and recipients returned home when their country is declared safe.

A Home Office whistleblower has warned that just 1 per cent of asylum claims are legitimate. Thousands of Kurds claim to be in a relationship with the daughter of the Prime Minister; hundreds of Pakistanis claim to be in a gay relationship with the same man; and Bangladeshis claim to be persecuted for membership of a political party they know nothing about.

Of course, the government still gives them fresh clothes, coach transport, and hotel rooms at taxpayers' expense — despite producing leaflets asking them not to commit sex crimes, because they know these men are violent predators.

That's why the masked members of Patriot Platform are protesting in Dover and Portsmouth: to delay the arrival of illegal migrants assisted by the RNLI and the state. Suddenly, the police want to ban face coverings at protests — though burqas and niqabs are exempt.

That's why Reform made a mistake calling the demonstrators "thugs" and "disgusting", and joined calls to ban face coverings now. Despite concerns about state involvement in Patriot Platform, the enemy is the state that imports these foreign criminals and punishes those opposed to it, not the protestors who fear for their lives and livelihoods and feel the need to hide their identity.

Footage of an Indian crowd at a University of Texas football game prompted an almighty crashout by Texas Republicans. State reps and senators condemned railroad commissioner candidate Bo French for expressing horror at “how many Americans have been displaced by foreigners.”

French recognises that representation is a zero-sum game. Cultural change inevitably follows demographic change. When Republicans import and pander to Indians, who don't vote for them, and cover Frisco and Fort Worth suburbs in Hindu temples, they deprive white men of economic opportunities and possession of their country. Why should they expect their political loyalty in return?

In an age of demographic insecurity, all politics becomes identity politics. The "We" to whom America's truths are self-evident cannot include foreigners with alien customs and religions from all over the world. As whites become a minority in Texas and nationwide, they will have nothing to lose by taking their own side. And it is absurd for Joel Berry and Seth Dillon to call that position "third worldist", while insisting people from the third world can become Americans.

Restore Britain has published a paper on the definition of British identity. They recognise the English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish as the indigenous "historic majority population of Britain" — the Britons. Under a Restore government, their continuity and demographic security would be the primary consideration in all immigration, integration, and citizenship policies.

"England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are not administrative units on a spreadsheet – they contain historic communities with identities, traditions, and connections to place stretching back generations... The English exist. The Welsh exist. The Scots exist. The Northern Irish exist."

While British citizenship would entitle anyone to equal protections under law, it would not give them the same primary consideration that native Britons enjoy by the British state. "Having at least one British-born parent represents a tangible inter-generational connection to this country that a Restore Britain government will legitimately recognise in appropriate areas of national policy." This includes preventing immigrants from claiming welfare benefits and living in social housing, even if they gain citizenship. You can't come to someone else's country and expect a handout.

Restore would also conduct a mass review of citizenship grants, issued at record rates in recent years, and revoke them where appropriate.They commit to a moratorium on citizenship grants, except for "minimal numbers" given to immigrants from approved countries who marry British citizens. Third world countries like India, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Eritrea will be proscribed by the Red List. Millions of people from those countries already in Britain would be returned home. "Mass deportations, remigration, net negative immigration – call it whatever you want. That is Restore Britain’s position on immigration, and it will not change."

This is a sensible distinction that matches my own. You can have foreign heritage, possess a British passport, and live among us as an adopted member of our national family if we want you to. But that does not mean the British people cease to exist as distinct ethnic groups, with a unique claim to the land and entitlement to primary consideration by their nation-state.

Peter Hitchens really hates being called Denethor, but offers nothing more to the young men and women of Britain than prognoses of despair while prescribing solutions. He urges them to flee their homeland rather than deport the unwanted, expensive, and criminal immigrants, making it a miserable place.

Hitchens is an ideological liberal. He insists we see everyone as “one race, the human race”, even when new arrivals don't and won't behave that way. Talk of mass deportations brings to his mind the spectres of the twentieth century. If you want to live in the same country he grew up in, he will call you a fascist.

That's because, in the pitifully reductive post-War Boomer mindset, having a country is indistinguishable from being Hitler. Noticing differences between groups is the first goose-step toward gas chambers. To prove you aren't a Nazi, you must signal your antiracist credentials.

This is why patriotic Zoomers have an allergic reaction to their elders praising immigrants as exemplars of integration, or insisting anyone can become British. For Boomers, they think they're being courteous and commending imitation as the highest form of flattery. For Gen Z, it sounds like you're indifferent to or encouraging their substitution, as they shrink into minorities in their own country. A fact Hitchens denies as being as fantastical as Tolkien's orcs and elves...

Reform UK were targeted by an undercover sting operation by Channel 4 and Verbatim, a group of climate activists who posed as American donors willing to commission polling and circumvent electoral laws to fund the party.

The activists work for the Centre for Climate Reporting, which receives foreign funding from the European Climate Foundation, Denmark’s KR Foundation, Belgian Meliore Foundation, and the Swiss Philanthropy Foundation. But this isn't about opposing foreign interference. This is a weaponisation of the law to sabotage Reform's electoral prospects.

James Orr and Dan Jukes were caught in the trap and have resigned pending an investigation by Reform. One Reform official described Orr as a "blood sacrifice" to save Farage, the true target of the sting.

Reform's polling lead has disappeared. A party official told the Spectator that the weekend's conference was designed to get "the country to fall in love with Nigel again." They clearly think they can't win without Farage at the helm.

But without the likes of Orr, even if Reform wins an election, they won't be able to govern effectively. The doors for fresh young talent to enter the civil service will close. The quality of policy and personnel will diminish. Reform will regress to posting about woke vegan breakfasts, and be consumed by factional infighting over who will be Farage's successor.

I don't care if Reform wanted to take donations from Americans who want to save Britain. I only care if whether they're up to the job. Without the likes of James Orr, they won't be.

The Bible Society retracted its "Quiet Revival" study, which claimed Christianity is growing again, especially among young men. But anecdotally, in political and academic circles, Christianity is experiencing a renaissance. Visit London's Oratories or St. Bartholomew's, and you'll see students, musicians, and podcast hosts in the pews.

A new report by Esmé Partridge and Theos for the Church of England finds influencers are causing a preference cascade that is prompting Gen Z to return to church. Young men are watching political and gaming streams which act as their gateway to Christianity. Young women are reacquanting themselves with their faith through tradwife lifestyle content and conversion testimonies on Instagram and TikTok.

Churches can draw young people in, but only if they stop letting the secular world contaminate their services. Zoomers want something permanent, transcendent, and beautiful, in contrast to the algorithmic slop that distracts them from the diminishing returns of their ever more busy work lives. They want tradition, hierarchy, and tranquillity. If your denomination doesn't provide that, they'll go to whichever does.

Britain's national debt is almost £3 trillion, equal to 94 per cent of GDP. We add £95.9 billion a year to it, and spend £100 billion a year servicing it. We have seen cumulative inflation of 31.3 per cent since 2020.

Borrowing is up £700 million from 2025, £2.3 billion more than the OBR forecast. We spend more on welfare (£333 billion) than we take in income tax (£331 billion), with the bill set to reach £400 billion by 2030. 53 per cent of households receive more in benefits than they pay in taxes, despite taxes being the highest since 1948. We have the most expensive energy costs in the developed world, but refuse to use our domestic oil and gas reserves purely because of ideology.

We cannot go on like this. We can't afford to. Fortunately, we don't have to. Decline is a choice. Both Reform UK and Restore Britain have proposed sensible economic and energy policies to reverse our national poverty.

Reform promises to abolish ILR, ban foreign nationals from claiming benefits, and put people making bogus PIP and unemployment claims back to work; to liquidate useless Quangos and shrink the civil service; and to repeal the Climate Change Act, scrap Net Zero, build small modular nuclear reactors, and issue new North Sea Oil and gas licenses.

Restore agree. Their policy papers also propose denaturalising immigrants who are net-tax recipients; raising income, corporation and capital gains tax and VAT registration thresholds; returning the Bank of England and its Monetary Policy Committee to Ministerial control; abolishing stamp duty, inheritance tax, and the climate change levy; and renegotiating renewables contracts to reduce or eliminate subsidies.

All of these are sensible suggestions. If we want to restore Britain's prosperity, we should all be on the same page about these policies.
