The story of Silicon Valley Bank not discussed in the news. This week we have the pleasure of speaking with investor, author and podcaster Rasheed Saleuddin, who took a break from his ski trip in Canada to join Gavin and help our listeners unpack the SVB story that unfolded over the weekend.
Is it a story about treasury mismanagement, digital access of funds, social media frenzy? Or changing depositor psychology, crypto on/off ramping, and a new generation of banking infrastructure?
--
Rasheed used to manage the treasury portfolio for Bank of America before pursuing an academic career where wrote extensively about bank runs, including and perhaps very relevant to today's discussion, how to mark credit risk in a crisis and who should pay for bank failures.
He is the author of two books, including one on Post-Crisis Bank Regulation of mortgage-backed securities titled Regulating Securitized Products, a Post-Crisis Guide.
