In this Tone Tuesday video, I’ll show you how I got the tone heard in the Mini-Course called “Heavy Swing Blues Rhythms - Volume 1”.

In this video I’ll demo the D’Angelico EX-SS. This model is the smallest of their Semi-Hollow guitars. It’s comfortable to play, is well built, and looks stunning. In this demo I’ll use it for two different styles of music and describe some things I like about the guitar.

The Super Six (Stevie Mod) from Lovepedal is an “amp-in-a-box” pedal designed to capture the sound of a Blackface Fender Super Reverb. Under the right conditions, it is the closest thing to SRV in a box that I’ve ever played (so far). As you’ll hear in the video, those conditions are:

An amp that’s fairly balanced, not to trebly.

Run at medium gain.

Pushed with a boost pedal for leads.

While your own playing and technique has more to do with sounding like SRV than anything else, this pedal does a great job of capturing that sparkle that the Super Reverb was known for.

Capo has been my goto slow-down software for years, but the new isolation feature is pretty remarkable. In this video I’m going to dissect a track off of a Hendrix bootleg (Live at the Scene Club) and show you how Capo can isolate either of the two guitarists, even though they’re panned to different parts of the stereo spectrum.
