  • The Apache Kid
    Originally Aired: March 2, 1938
The Lone Ranger #795, "The Apache Kid," brings the masked man and Tonto face to face with one of the Southwest's most ruthless outlaws. When they discover badly wounded Deputy Tom Reynolds dying in an arroyo, the elderly lawman reveals he was shot by the notorious Apache Kid. Before passing away, Reynolds shares his tragic mission: for five years, he has pursued the Apache Kid to avenge his murdered son Dave. The wealthy rancher-turned-deputy had dreamed of bringing the killer in alive to tell him that killing Dave Reynolds would be his downfall. Now that chance seems lost forever.
The Lone Ranger travels to meet Sheriff Burns and learns the full story of Tom Reynolds' obsessive quest for justice. Rather than simply hunting down the Apache Kid with guns blazing, the masked man devises a careful plan. He takes Reynolds' bullet-pierced badge and sends Tonto to track the outlaw's trail, while keeping one crucial secret: Tom Reynolds may not actually be dead. The Lone Ranger knows the savage Apache Kid must be lured in carefully, not through force, but through cunning that will bring him to justice on his own terms.

Meanwhile, in Silver Gulch, prospector Jim Flood and his wife Ruth face desperate circumstances. Jim has discovered a fortune in gold on his hillside claim, but his greedy neighbor Harve Riggs has obtained a legal injunction preventing him from digging because the loose shale slides down onto Riggs' property below. Riggs offers a mere $150 for Jim's valuable claim while demanding $1,000 for his own worthless land, effectively trapping the Floods between legal constraints and grinding poverty. As Jim waits in vain for an offer from an Eastern mining syndicate, the missing Pony Express letter may hold the key to his salvation.

There he learns about the bitter and reclusive Panamint Nash, a crippled man who rules over his extended family in the Bend Country and forbids any contact with the townspeople. Amy also tells him about Sheriff Bob Frawley, a young lawman driven by a lifelong vow to avenge his father's murder by tracking down a left-handed, limping outlaw known as Wildcat. As the Ranger heads toward the Nash property, he overpowers a guard and positions himself outside the house to eavesdrop. Inside, Panamint confronts Lindy about her meetings with Sheriff Frawley, suspecting her relationship with the young lawman. The tension escalates when Bob's description of his father's killer—a left-handed man with a limp called Wildcat—raises disturbing implications about someone close to home. • The Kansas Kid And The Stagecoach Murders
    Originally Aired: February 9, 1938
The Lone Ranger #786, "The Kansas Kid And The Stagecoach Murders,"
Ben Sortell, district superintendent of the stage line between Pine River and Calhoun, faces a deadly mystery. Twice in the past month, stages have arrived in town with both driver and guard dead, the mail rifled through by unknown killers. While Sortell discusses the baffling murders with Sheriff Jack Beardsley, a scrawny young man calling himself the Kansas Kid appears at the office. Peter Barrett, as he's really known, insists he's eighteen and can handle a six-horse team, desperately begging for work as a stage driver. Despite his obvious youth and frail appearance, the kid refuses to take no for an answer, claiming he'll bring the horses through alive where bigger, more experienced men have failed.
Sheriff Beardsley grows suspicious when the Kansas Kid accepts a menial job sweeping the office after being denied a driver's position. Watching through the window, Beardsley and Sortell catch the boy rifling through the desk, studying the stage schedules. Before they can confront him, a masked man appears with guns drawn, also demanding information about the stage routes, plunging the investigation into deeper intrigue.

  • Contraband Liquor
    Originally Aired: February 7, 1938
The Lone Ranger #785, "Contraband Liquor," begins with a murder that threatens to expose a dangerous smuggling operation along the border. Steve Brady, a Border Patrol agent investigating illegal liquor trafficking, confronts cafe owner Flint Berkman at gunpoint, preparing to bring him in for questioning about contraband alcohol being sold in his establishment. Before Berkman can reveal anything about the smuggling ring, a mysterious shooter kills him with a perfect shot from outside. As Sheriff Perkins organizes a posse to hunt for the killer, suspicion quickly falls on a wandering drifter named Cactus Pete Hawkins, who is found in possession of a gun with the wrong initials and clothes that don't fit him.
Pete's story about being forced to switch clothing and weapons with a stranger at gunpoint seems too convenient, and his knowledge of Berkman makes him the perfect suspect. As the townspeople demand justice and lynch mob sentiment grows, the real conspiracy begins to reveal itself. Sheriff Perkins meets secretly with Steve Brady in the shadows, and it becomes clear that Brady has betrayed the Border Patrol and is working with the smugglers to frame an innocent man.
