Question: In a political hotbed where each side is fighting to prove that the other side is wrong, is there now an even greater need for compassion in today’s business, political and community leadership.
If we are to believe the media, it certainly appears that extremist beliefs, behaviours and groups are on the rise. Extremist ideology is fueled through the belief that one way of thinking/being is right and therefore anything else is wrong.
It seems to me that any kind of leadership based on the need to be Right and therefore make the other side wrong, has become more important that the good of the American economy and the American people at large.
When this is the case we lack compassion.
Compassion: a feeling of distress for the suffering or misfortune of another, and the desire to alleviate it.
When we lose sight of Compassion we may be on a road we do Not want to be on, creating for ourselves and our children a nation we would not want to live in.
My guest today is a man who says he deeply understands this from both sides, in that he spent years being part of a movement that was devoid of compassion and with it came hate and hate crimes.
As a former organizer for the White Aryan Resistance (WAR) at age 15 Tony McAleer became a Skin head, by 19 he was a fully fledged Neo Nazi, by 20 his intelligence and personality had him rise through the ranks to become the voice of leadership for the movement.
However, that was then and this is now… Today he is The Neo Compassionist and Chairman of the Board at “Life After Hate” The mission of Life After Hate is to demonstrate and practice the primal, basic goodness of humanity and to discover common threads that interconnect us all.
He will share with us how he as a middle class white kid ended up making the choices he did to become a violent racist skinhead leader due to the emotional and physical bullying he received in his childhood. Furthermore, when speaking about Bullying he says: Trying to deal with bullying without using compassion is like trying to treat cancer with Band-Aids.
He will share his touching story of what made him change from Neo-Nazi to Neo-Compassionist, and why we as leaders need more compassion in our business’, communities and political parties.
This is just a small sampling of where this enlightening interview will go.
