Intelligent Intoxication

Too Easy Or Too Difficult

Listen Later

Underachievement can also be impacted by trying to do work that is TOO EASY or work that is TOO DIFFICULT.

If we finish something that’s too easy, we don’t value the results because we didn’t have to work hard to create them. If we attempt to do something that’s too difficult and we never create satisfying results, we don’t feel as if our work was worth it.

We want to engage in work or projects that allow us to squirm so that we can grow and increase our self-esteem. If it’s too easy, this won’t happen. If it’s too difficult and we consistently fail, that’s not ideal either.

I invite you to consider these questions:

  • What are you spending time doing that is way too easy for you and not at all satisfying?
  • When do you force yourself to do work that is outside your areas of strength that is unnecessarily difficult for you?
  • When do you notice working really hard yet not creating results?
  • When do you notice not feeling compensated for your efforts?
  • How often are you squirming?
