Key Points

God’s love is not conditional on what you do or don’t do.

If we had to earn God’s love, it wouldn’t be grace, it would be wages.

Mercy stops the punishment that we deserve. Grace pours out blessings that we could never deserve.

Grace isn’t just for you. It’s for them – through you.

Discussion Questions:

1) How has your experience with human relationships shaped your view of God’s love? Do you find yourself trying to “earn” God’s approval? Why do you think that is?

2) Which part of the Prodigal Son story do you most relate to right now—the younger son, the older son, or the father? Why?

3) What’s the difference between showing someone mercy and showing them grace in your own relationships? Can you think of a recent situation where you were challenged to do one or the other?

4) Why is it hard for us to receive or extend grace, especially when it feels unfair? What fears or beliefs might be holding you back?

5) Who in your life is “still a long way off” that God may be calling you to move toward in grace? What might it look like to take the first step?
