The series follows the Maxx as he attempts to protect Julie Winters in a dark and gloomy city while also shifting between worlds in a manner that he cannot control. He is constantly at odds with Mr. Gone, a mysterious entity who is able to control the small, creepy-looking beings known as The Isz.
