  • Episode 21-02: The Mental Game: Are We Missing Something?

One of the most important and often overlooked areas of athlete development.

We spend so much time training the body. But how much time do we spend training the mind?

Are we giving the mental game the attention it deserves?

    Strength. Speed. Power. Technique.

We invest enormous amounts of time developing the physical and technical aspects of performance.

But how athletes think, what they perceive, how they respond to pressure, and how they handle success and failure can have an enormous influence on their development and performance.

And here’s something every sport parent and coach should understand.

The mental game is a skill. And like any skill, it can be trained and developed.

This week on Krush Performance, I’m joined by Krush Hall of Famer Dr. Martin Mrazik, clinical neuropsychologist, professor at the University of Alberta, founder of Elite Athlete Services, and Director of Wellness and Performance for the Edmonton Oilers.

We’re taking a deep dive into one of the most important — and often underdeveloped — areas of Athlete & Player Development.

    In This Episode, We Explore:

    – Why mental performance deserves the same attention as physical and technical development.

    – How perception influences what athletes experience, how they respond, and what they learn.
    – The importance of routines, mental resets, resilience, and mental toughness.
    – How athletes can prepare for challenges and respond when things don’t go as planned.
    – The relationship between conscious thinking, instinct, and performance.
    – Where coaches, parents, and athletes can begin developing the mental game.

Mental performance is gaining recognition throughout the sporting world. But understanding how to develop it — and how to integrate it into everyday training and competition — remains a challenge.

And that’s where this conversation becomes so important.

Because developing the mental game isn’t simply about performing better under pressure.

It’s about helping athletes learn, adapt, respond to challenges, and become better prepared for whatever sport throws their way.

Sport Parents. Sport Coaches. This is a conversation you don’t want to miss.

Join us as we explore The Mental Game on Krush Performance.

We’re here to help you think like an athlete.

  • Episode 21-01: How Good Can Your Athlete Become?

Sport Parents. Sport Coaches. This Season Is for You.

How good can your athlete become?

It’s one of the most important questions we can ask in sport.

    And the answer?

    We don’t know.

We won’t know until they go through the process of Athlete & Player Development.

The practices. The games. The training. The successes. The failures. The opportunities. And the decisions made along the way.

    And those decisions matter.

Coaches create the environments. Parents help choose the environments.

Together, they have an enormous influence on an athlete’s development.

Welcome to Season 21 of Krush Performance!

This season, we’re turning our attention to the people making those important decisions — Sport Parents and Sport Coaches.

Sport has never offered more opportunities. More programs, more training, more competition, more technology, and more information than ever before.

But with all these opportunities comes an important challenge.

How do you know what’s right for your athlete?

What do they really need? When do they need it? How much is enough? And how do those answers change as they grow and develop?

Throughout Season 21, we’ll explore the science and real-world realities of Athlete & Player Development — from sleep, recovery, nutrition, and brain development to talent, specialization, training, readiness, and the environments that shape performance.

We’ll bring you leading researchers, experts, and thought-provoking conversations to help separate evidence from noise and turn complicated science into practical knowledge.

Because the challenge isn’t simply finding opportunities anymore.

    It’s knowing which opportunities matter.

And while we may not know how good an athlete can become, we can work incredibly hard to give them the opportunity to find out.

Sport Parents. Sport Coaches. This season is for you.

Join us as we kick off Season 21 of Krush Performance as we help sports parents and coaches better understand athlete development so they can make smarter, more confident decisions for their athletes.
