Hagen Mills, who appeared in the FX series "Baskets," died Tuesday in Mayfield, Kentucky. He was 29.

Mills died in Mayfield after shooting a woman in the arm and chest before turning the gun on himself, according to a statement released by Mayfield Police Department Chief Nathan Kent.

Officers had responded to a call of a woman shot at a residence just after 5:45 p.m. CT Tuesday, according to the statement.

When police arrived at the home, there were met by a woman outside the home who had gunshot wounds to her arm and chest, Kent said. She told police that Mills shot her and was still inside the home after shooting himself.

According to officers, Mills held a young girl and another woman hostage until the woman whom he would eventually shoot had returned home.

Police found Mills inside the home and pronounced him dead at the scene. The woman who was shot was transported to a hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

The other woman and young girl "were not physically injured during the incident," Mayfield police said in a statement.

Mayfield is roughly 25 miles south of Paducah in Western Kentucky.

The Courier Journal is not naming the woman who was shot nor specifying the relationship between Mills and all three female subjects in order to protect their identities.

The woman whom Mills shot Tuesday had filed an emergency protective order against him in Graves District Court earlier this month, according to online court records.

Mills had also been arrested and charged in late March with various rape, kidnapping and assault offenses in Graves County, court records show.
