Did you know that superheroes actually exist? They’re not humans, spirits, or aliens, but rather aquatic animals dwelling in the depths of the sea, or inhabiting the tranquil waters of rivers and ponds.

When you think of a river, the last thing you think about is probably how strong its water really is. You are more than likely to think about calm flowing water that brushes over stones at the bottom of the river. Maybe you envision small fish in the river. Whatever you think about, it’s definitely not how powerful the river is.

Since mankind began, we’ve sought shelter as a place to conduct domestic and later, work life. As innovations developed, many different materials and building methods came into play, and architects got increasingly ambitious. Sleep by itself can be boring; that’s why when you “sleep with someone,” you never just sleep with them.  When you stay at a hotel, that’s really all you need, but it’s never what you want (by itself anyway).  You expect room service, complimentary breakfast, and little soaps and shampoo bottles.  You are paying, in essence, for an experience that is restful more than just rest itself.

There are a lot of things we take for granted, things we believe are a certain way and have accepted as true. Many of these things are a part of everyday life, and we would likely be lost without them. It turns out, however, that with many of these things we are either not getting the full picture, or we are being deliberately deceived. Below are ten ways the world is lying to you.

Love them or hate them, hipsters have become a ubiquitous part of the human tapestry in many urban destinations popular with young people—Brooklyn, Portland, and Oakland, to name just a few key hipster locales within the United States. This subculture (hipsters hate to actually be called hipsters) is made up of people who consider themselves outside of the mainstream, and who have embraced a distinctive array of accessories and activities to underscore this point. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart once said of the difficulty in defining pornography, “I know it when I see it,” and the same approach can be applied to spotting hipsters. Few people could argue that without our 5 senses life would be pretty dull. All our senses are extremely important but I think if you asked most people which sense would they least like to lose they would probably say their vision. As with most of our abilities, our vision is something that many of us take for granted. If you stop and think for a moment, you will realize that just about everything we do in our day to day life involves our vision.
