E073 - Country Royale - On August 29, 2024 the Disco Biscuits debuted "Country Royale," the latest in a long string of collaborations between the band and lyricist Joey Friedman. In this episode of the podcast, keyboardist Aron Magner, Joey, and Max trace the song's long journey from its conception last January through its first live performance in Chicago. You'll hear the earliest instrumental loop, an initial incarnation called "The King and Queen of New Jersey," Joey's vocal demoes, and snippets of backstage rehearsals, culminating with Aron's analysis of the song's live debut.

E071 - New Springfield Boogie Stop Shuffle - Alex Mazer is a creative polymath who works across an array of visual and audio mediums, including digital mashups and memes, video production, fashion, poetry, and songwriting. While he's probably best known by his online moniker New Springfield Boogie (or, alternatively, "that Simpsons guy from Shakedown"), Alex is also a frequent collaborator of the Disco Biscuits. In this episode Max and Alex discuss his contributions to such Biscuits songs as Falling, Another Plan of Attack, and In the End We Have Forever. Along the way, they delve into the evolution of jamband lot art from bootleg merch to high fashion, the origins of the Biscuits' custom CornerTwelve jumpsuits, and how Alex got tapped to officiate Barber's wedding.

E70 - Nick Gerlach - Before getting to this week's episode, we at Touchdowns All Day would like to acknowledge the passing of our brother Johnny R. Goode III. JRG3 was the Disco Biscuits' lighting designer for more than two decades, and his artistry behind the console was a defining element of live Bisco. Beyond that, Johnny was a loyal friend, a generous mentor, a father, and a diehard Biscuits fan.
Touchdowns All Day will be dedicating a future episode of the podcast to Johnny, and we'd like you to be a part of it. Joining us this week is bass and keyboard tech Ben Travers. Ben joined the crew in January 2024, and since then he's worked closely with Aron and Marc to shape the Biscuits' current sound. He updates us on the state of Aron's ever-evolving keyboard array and sheds light on some of the newest enhancement to Marc's bass rig and Moog setup. From washing dishes at a local club to supporting major international touring artists on stage and off, Ben has held down nearly every job in the live music business, and he brings a unique perspective and skill set to what Marc has been describing as the best crew in the Biscuits' history.

E066 - I Remember When w/Ted Kartzman and Andy Gadiel - In this episode we inaugurate “I Remember When,” a new segment commemorating some of the greatest moments in the Disco Biscuits’ history. We kick things off with the story of the band’s impromptu show on May 31, 1999, as recounted by the men who staged it: Ted Kartzman and Andy Gadiel.
Ted and Andy have been active members in the jamband community since before the term “jamband” was even in widespread use. Ted was originally a classmate of the Biscuits at the University of Pennsylvania. Andy was responsible for creating some of the first websites dedicated to jambands during the world wide web’s embryonic phase. Together they launched jambase.com, which since 1998 has served as a clearinghouse for information about live music and touring bands. But first and foremost, Ted and Andy are lifelong friends and fans of the Disco Biscuits who have been present for or participated in many of the most momentous episodes in the band’s history.
Ted and Andy walk us through the genesis of the online jamband community, their early experiences seeing the Biscuits, and the series of events leading up to their last-second decision to book the band into the tiny back room of their favorite Chicago bar. Ted and Andy were more than just eye witnesses on musical history; they were and remain catalysts and connectors dedicated to sharing their passion for live music with the world. As such, they have unique perspectives to share on the evolution of the Biscuits’ music and scene and the bubble of positivity that has enveloped the band during its current renaissance.
